A couple of ST220 questions

Well no, I doubt its only that at all, really.

From one of the pictures it looks to have damage to the nearside front corner and I'll bet that's not the only problem.

OK I'm on the brink of starting to look for one.. It's annoying that they're all an hour or so away from me, but hey.

Is 5-6k enough for a facelift in decent condition?

Some examples of some I've found:

What sort of things do I need to check in person that could be "hidden" from an advert with seemingly good pictures of a good condition car? I'm a bit rusty at car buying :(

Oh also.. What is the recommended path to go down re. servicing? Are Ford main dealer costs reasonable? Can any old back street garage cope with them? I assume it's not recommended to DIY stuff like oil changes etc, for sake of the service history?

Absolutely great cars and from what I could see when I did my homework they were very, very reliable cars with no (facelift onwards at least) real weak spots that were likely to cause wallet busting pain.

Just be careful of used ones because fast Fords attract the sort of people you wouldnt want to buy a car from. Buy one off a lovely chap who has had it for years.

I can honestly say I am suprised, I'm not being funny I just bought you were BMW all the way and ford seems a bit of a departure

I wouldnt buy one now, obviously, but almost did and chose the 530i instead. There is no question that the 530i is a better car but the Ford was a great car and IMHO was probably a more sensible and a better choice for me. It would also have made upgrading a heck of a lot easier as well.

Out of curiosity, is it possible to fit a smaller, less ugly steering wheel to the Mondeo? Like one from a Focus or something?

Great cars but no longer at a big discount against a 330i like they used to be.

They are in terms of running costs which is a factor in my decision.. The Ford seems to tick all the boxes - decent running costs, performance, looks, gadgets etc :)

Can't say the steering wheel bothers me!

Servicing is pretty cheap from main dealers. On my old diesel, a lot of indies were more expensive, so not worth tarnishing a full main dealer history IMO

The Mondeo wheel isn't big. It's been a while since I drove a mk2 Focus but from what I remember it's the same size.

The ST220 wheel looks identical to the one fitted in my 2.5 MK3, and it is certainly bigger than my Focus ST., and much, much uglier.

I like my steering wheel :(

Ok so the main problem is the bits in silver are plastic when they should be brushed aluminium or something :p

Also Howard, if you like your car audio, you need to pull out the standard Sony 6CD and upgrade it. The standard speakers are fine but i've also added a sub which I have on low just for a bit of fill in bass. (Had the sub anyway so may aswell use it instead of upgrading the speakers)
