I have been offered
4GB (4x1GB sticks)
GeIL GX22GB6400LX DDR2 PC6400 800mhz

for a cheap price around 25 pounds is this worth the monies? i have heard about quite a few problems when i looked at the reviews on google

my current setup is below where i only have 2GB if crucial,

is it worth changing to geil ram over what i currently have?is it worth the monies or performance gains.

Having owned both of those types

I can say that the Crucial stuff makes a great paper weight but poor ram
for my system.

Geil is pretty decent stuff IF there are no compatability problems with your mobo

Using 4 sticks of ram could reduce your overclock, as it puts more strain on the controller. I have had good results with GeIL ram, although I am now using ReaperX as it was cheaper :D

This.

So long as you take care to check over your OC you should see a decent improvement.
Geil are pretty good :)

I've only had one problem with Geil, and that was more due to my motherboard being picky than the ram itself as it worked fine in another machine.

Thats a good price with RAM prices right now and GEIL make good RAM, I've used them several times. Only issues tend to be the ICs aren't tested with as wide a range of motherboard because they're a smaller company, so occasionally there are compatability issues, but I'd say go for it.
GEIL also at least used to be known for moderate clocking potential on almost all thier RAM, even value stuff (Black Dragon, Golden Dragon, Value etc)

I seem to remember a while back one of the OcUK staff members who posted on this board mentioned that at the time GEIL had the LOWEST returns/RMA numbers out of the brands they sold.

I've never had a problem with Geil ram, I've used the same stuff (if it's the one with the blue heat spreader) for a few years now.

I used 4x1GB of Geil PC2-6400 and it was top notch stuff. It still commands a decent price second hand too. I think Geil are one of the best memory brands you can buy, certainly for DDR2. OcUK still stock it but it doesn't seem as popular for DDR3, possibly because of the higher prices now and no clear performance/quality advantage over some well priced stuff from the likes of G.Skill for example.

ok sounds good, how much would it reduce my overclock by?
i a couple of the review i read said that on installation of windows 7 with this ram it was BSOD and on one instance no post

it is the brushed aluminium heatspread stuff > is this value stuff?

I am using Geil Value Dual Channel Kit 2G x 2, DDR3-1600 set at 1360 MHz (7-7-7-24-1T) 1.6v for nearly 2 years. With these timings, it is one of the fastest ram you can get for the price and it overclocks quite nicely.

-----------------------------------------------------------------
Gigabyte GA-MA790FX-UD5P, 955 BE(C2)@3.77GHz 1.45V, Geil Value 4GB DDR3-1600,
ATI 5850 1GB, CM90 II Advanced, 1TB Western Digital Caviar Black, 4 HDDs, Jeantech Storm 700w,
Asus Xonar Essence STX, Pinnacle PCTV 3010iX Dual Analogue + DVB-T.

Problem is if one person has one bad experiance with bad RAM it tends to put them off that brand for good. I've had duff RAM from mostly all branded RAM at some point or another but this doesn't put me off buying them. It's just unlucky.

I'm currently using GeIL PC2-6400 in my gaming rig. No problems for 3 years :)

As you can see from my rig, I've had my Geil for more than a year and 6months now, never had problems, great overclockers as well, got mine to 860mhz easy, even mine don't have ram sinks :D
