Just had a phone call from my GF saying that she's just found a parking ticket on the car with a fine of £50!

The thing is, she shouldn't have recieved the parking ticket as we pay a monthly fee to park in certain car parks which my GF did.

The ticket says that if we want to appeal agaisnt the fine we have to write a letter and that face-to-face and telephone conversations would not be allowed! Why is this?!

The Chichester Council building is just round the corner from where i work and it would be so much simpler to just walk over there and have a go at them and find out why the hell she got the ticket!

We have 28 days to pay up and i feel like i should pay first and write the letter later as it will probably take them 3 months to combine all the brain cells that are in the council to work out that they wrongly charged us!#

Do you think i should pay first and ask later, or send the letter off and not pay at all?

Oh, and 1000 posts :D

Because if every Tom Dick and Harry wanted to complain face to face it would take all day. Its much easier to write an account politly about what happened and why she thinks there wrong.

If you have a permit and were parked legally then do not pay and write them a letter within the 28 days.
I presume they need it in writing for auditing purposes, last thing you want is some admin clerk saying its fine (and not doing anything about it) and then receiving more fines later for not responding or paying up.

I think it's because it's easier to fob people off by email, councils love to hide behind computer screens.

Try the forums on there, they will give you an answer :)

Also: Is it a private company or is it Council issued? (You will need to check this - if it's non council = ignore it :) )

In a more serious post, when you appeal the officer who issued the ticket will have to provide visual evidence of the vehicle being parked in the wrong area etc... so when they review this i would hope that the parking permit would be visible in the picture. If he has taken a picture that doesnt include the area where the permit is it may be a bit more difficult to argue your case as neither party can prove it was there. The best thing to do in the future would be to take a picture yourself with both the ticket and permit clearly visible as at least this would give you some visual proof. (this would have to have been done on the day though unfortunately...)

Yeah, don't bother paying it. Just send a letter saying why they're in the wrong. It's much easier to keep hold of money you haven't given away yet than it is to claim back what you're owed.

Aren't they required to take very detailed photo's though?

I only say that because I was watching a parking attendant yesterday and he must have taken 10 photo's for 1 car, including the sign which states the terms of the space.

Pfffffft if they can't prove you didn't have a have a permit on display, and you owned one at that time, they are hardly going to be able to push through a parking ticket

Certainly don't pay up. Write An appeal letter and send by recorded post. I've had fines quashed before, due to ticket dropping off the windscreen, I sent them a photocopy of the ticket and stated quite clearly they wouldn't be getting a penny. fine was dropped.

Is it a council ticket or a parking company? if just a parking co then don't even bother writing to them, just don't pay, they have no power.

What does it say at the top of the ticket?

1. Penalty Charge Notice
2. Fixed Penalty Notice
3. Something else

Are you 100% sure it was issued by the council?

Don't pay anything yet.

After i got home work i went to the car park where my GF parked and found out she parked on the wrong side of the car park

There are 2 areas of the car park; left for non-season ticket holders, right for season ticket holders and where did she park.... :o

I don't understand why there are designated areas for season ticket holders, we're taking 1 space of x amount of spaces no matter where we park, so why do they have 2 seperate parts?! Makes no sense!

Lucky enough, if she pays within the first 2 weeks there's a 50% discount so it's only £25 instead of £50!

Oh well....

That doesn't make any sense. Are you saying that because she pays for this season ticket thing, she is forbidden to park in the free spaces?
