Got to do a 12 hour flight followed by an 11 hour flight tomorrow with a one hour break in between. Anyone got any suggestions to make the flights more comfortable.

Obvious ones are drink plenty of fluids and stretch my legs every few hours...anyone got any other suggestions.

Luckily the first flight is 8PM tomorrow night and i'm up at 5AM tomorrow morning so I should crash out pretty quickly.

On a Long distance flight Don't try and sneak into the undercarridge. As it is unpressurized making the air 1/3rd as thin as in the cabin causing you to pass out. It also gets as low as -35 and 95% of the time you will die. I think its best to just stay in your seat and watch the films , read a book and listen to music. Also playing games make the time fly by as well.

Well what a way to ruin my plans :p

Keep well hydrated, don't drink alcohol, utlilize the bendy bits of the headrest to make sleeping more comfortable, have a walk every so often

I stocked up on extra batteries for my laptop, watched movies on the plane and on my laptop, etc etc. There isnt much else you can do really, whatever anyone says it's going to suck. I am guessing you are off to New Zealand? I had a 13 hour flight, a 2 hour wait and then a 7 hour flight...

Pillow and maybe an eyemask to help you get off to sleep, if you can sleep on planes.

If flying solo maybe pick your seats wisely, you dont want the window seat if you're the type to need the toilet a lot as this will annoy the other passengers

Close...Fiji...been waiting for this for ages!

Thanks for all the tips, I know most are obvious and i've googled it, however you never know what someone might suggest which isn't so obvious!

tbh, its best if you dont wear the socks that "prevent dvt"! They're a con and can actually make things worse.

As you've mentioned, plenty of fluids, light food (nothing heavy, i.e. stick to bread, soups (never gunna happen on a plane I know xD), pasta).

Also, after eating hot meals, DO NOT HAVE A COOL/COLD DRINK!! Dont do it ever infact, let alone during a flight. The coolness cuases any lipids/ fatty acids to coagulate and stick onto the epithelium, which can cause lots of issues!

Just relax, read a book, sleep as much as possible

What's the legroom like on long haul aircraft? I haven't been on a plane for more than 5 hours, even that was hell.

Depends who you fly with. I was very careful and picked the airline with the best seat pitch - Malaysia Airlines with a 34" pitch. It was fine.

Sadly my next long haul has a 32" pitch :(

Make sure you empty your bowels before flying, it could be quite embarrassing if you stink the cabin out

Flying with Cathay Pacific, they don't have reclining seats, instead it's a shell where if you want to "recline" the seat slides forward in the shell. You lose some legroom but don't annoy the person behind.

Im off the The Maldives in just over 2 weeks, a 10 hour flight followed by a 1 hour sea plane flight.

We've been told pretty much the same as on here, the leg tights things are a waste of time, if anything they'll make you believe that DVT isn't an issue and you'll be more at risk as you wont do anything to prevent it.

Plenty of fluids (non-alcoholic) and move your feet regularly, rotate for a few minutes every half hour-hour or so to keep the blood flowing, as a result of you drinking plenty you'll need a few trips to the toilet so that'll help too.

Other than that, charge your Ipod, fill with music and films and chill out for a few hours!
