Mondeo DMF

i recently stick a conventional flywheel and clutch on a 20vt a3. the main difference between the two was a slightly lighter clutch pedal. what issues have you had? ive heard a couple people say bad things about the valeo conversion now

My pedal isn't light, it's about the same as the DMF setup, not light, not heavy, in the middle lol.

Main annoyance is juddering in first when pulling off. If you slip the clutch quickly it's ok but if you're in traffic it's annoying.

It intermittently is a bit notchy on the old gearchange, yet sometimes is flawless and smooth. Weird.

Also it went from biting at the bottom of the pedal when new to now biting about 3/5ths up the pedal which is rather high in effect.

the juddering sounds like a faulty friction disc unfortunately and the gear change, maybe you could check that the selector cables are attached to the tower correctly, they shuoldnt need adjustment, though, if they were simply removed and re attached after

To be honest I want to avoid taking it back where I had it done.

Sometimes it feels as though the clutch isn't quite engaging properly, it's a bit snappy if that makes any sense as if it sticks then works lol.

Also one more thing I forgot is when I come off the throttle its quite jerky now, not smooth. I have a polybushed dog bone mount. It was fine before, I've had my mechanic check its on and torqued up right but still... I'm eventually gonna swap it to an R32 dog bone though.

I think a lot of the issues were the mechanic who did it, unfortunately a fellow Golf owner/friend recommended him as he must have got lucky but alas, not I! lol

see one thing i worry about with dodgy DMFs is causing issues with the crank if they fail and become imbalanced.

stormster, i think you may be spot on with it no engaging/disengaging properly as a lot of the time, lifting off the throttle is timed with dipping the clutch. if the clutch is dipped and not disengaged then youll get a jolt

was it a valeo kit?

It was indeed :) It's not massively bad but I'm picky and in my little quest to get the car as good as it can be (in terms of how it drives) for it's age/milage.

Daft idea of mine methinks lol.

On one of the Vauxhall forums a owner left the DMF rattling for 40k and it bent the crank.

I wouldn't like to leave a DMF to fail completely I know one failed in a Golf TDI and it smashed a hole in the gearbox.

I cant tell mine is starting to go, as when i start a get some juddering which go away after 10 seconds or so.

I even get it a little when idle at say a set of light, but the revs dont go up or down.

I also get a little ticking noice on idle which you can hear if you are outside the car.

They are the right signs yes?

i personally couldnt see a valeo kit being "bad", valeo are hardly newcomers tbh. it could be that he didnt clean/regrease the release mech for the release bearing. could be guessing forever.

im sort of expecting a failing on the mk4 i got recently. 150k on the original clutch and its been remapped for a while. the editor of vw driver magazine had the original clutch in his 20vt until something crazy like 220k miles!

Thats good going :) My clutch went on 133k and it'd been remapped for approx 30k.

Yeah I went for the Valeo kit after reading all the blurb and taking on board Valeo being a big company who make a lot of OE bits.

If something pops, I will make the chap who did it pay lol. I am confident it's "ok" but we'll see how it goes :) Would need pulling to bits and checking completely to find out and he nor anyone else will do that for free. So, one of those things to live with for a while. Gonna get gearbox oil changed soon and an R32 dog bone like I say to see how things improve/feel.
