this is further to my recentish thread about having my wife's car back to the dealers, they had a handful of things to fix, 1) A rattling passenger window 2) Squealing brakes and 3) Squealing from under car when moving from cold, changing gear, going over speed bumps etc (only from cold, after 5-10 miles problem goes away).

Turns out they didn't fix the window, rattles worse than it did before, they didn't fix the brakes, still make just as much noise and claimed they couldn't replicate the fault with the squealing from cold, despite my wife and I managing to do it every day when it's started.

It also appears they supplied a completely bald spare tyre, no idea how that got through the MOT unless they swapped it out afterwards.

I don't want to keep taking it back to have some monkey do nothing constructive with it so what are my options? Speak to Citroen UK and get them to harrass the dealer?

How long you had it?

Anyway that aside, insist the service manager comes out with you having left the car overnight so you can replicate the noise from cold, and point the other noises out to him.

2 months, she needs the car for the weekend so I'll ring the dealer on Monday and do as you mention.

For the record, I didn't buy it, it's not my car, I accept no responsibility for what she spends her money on, at least until it goes wrong and she starts giving me earache.

If you have a spare wheel in the car, it needs to be legal to pass an MOT. One exception to this may be if it isn't inflated, but I'm going from a 'feeling' rather than fact on that one.

That's probably changed in the last few years then. I've had an advisory on a spare before. I started looking for one in decent nick, but... err... never got round to replacing it.

If your wife has only had the car 2 months and this is the treatment your getting, i'd be going ballistic.

Sorely tempted, but unfortunately there's an "I don't give a ****" attitude prevalent amongst Northern Ireland dealers.

Anyway, I'm going to ring them on Monday, arrange for a mechanic to come up and collect the car where I can demonstrate the problems to him so there's no ambiguity, if it comes back again and I'm not happy I'll see how far a complaint to Citroen UK get's me.

I wouldn't bank on going directly to Citroen to sort this out, they will either not bother doing anything or will take their time when contacting this dealer or they will just simply tell you to go back and speak to the manager there.

You'll also be amazed how dealers can get cars through MOT's, when I got my old Fiesta the dealer's garage carried out the MOT on the car and they still passed it the car despite both headlamps being stupidly out of allignment, a knackered rear shock absorber & totally perished rear suspension bushes (which I found out 4 month's later when having to get them replaced because of the amount of banging going on at the back of the car) and my local garage who changed the rear shock absorbers and the bushes shortly afterwards thought it was a mystery how it still got through the MOT with how bad and near enough non existent the bushes were.

Keep nagging the dealers, they will still try and wiggle their way out of having to carry out anymore work.

A spare tyre doesn't have to be legal, but once it is put on the car then it does.

he just said above with a link to the MOT manual that says 'the spare tyre isnt part of the MOT test'

mine doesnt even have a spare, just a kit to fill the tyre with useless glue lol
