Hi Guys,

Been out in many cars and have got down to these three:

VW Scirocco 2.0 GT (210 bhp)

Honda Civic Type R GT (198 bhp) - current favourite due to trim and build

Seat Leon FR 2.0 (208 bhp)

Basically having a really hard time choosing between the cars - will be buying new and want to make the right choice.

Any user experience with these cars on a day to day basis? General opinions, etc?

Get a nearly new BMW 135i.

I can understand your sentiment but for a Golf or Civic it's really not worth it imo.

Out of these the CTR or the Leon - Not driven either of these though!!

Stay away from the Scirocco. Overpriced. Overated. (In my oppintion - I've driven the 2.0 GT - It was uncomfortable, gutless and felt like - Dare I say a Golf!!!)

Only going to do it once, but want to own one car from new - everyone I know who has done it says there is something very special about having a car from new at least once...

You will have the 'new' feeling for a week then realise that you could have got so much more car for the same price, even if you bought a used 59 or 10 plate.

If you insist on new, the VW Scirocco 2.0 GT looks the best imo:).

Yeah I really don't like BMW's - have tried that car as it was on the short list and well just no :P

As for the new thing its just gonna happen - i'm all excited about kitting it out just how I want with the colour of the seats to the upgraded speakers :D

Yeah that was my problem with the VW it did just feel like the golf, but it was cheaper and looks nicer than the Golf GTI so that got it a spot in the top three

Crash your current car into a wall, your loan car will be brand new. Then you can do the new car thing for a month, realise that after 3 weeks its just another used car, and get over it that way leaving your budget open to buying you even more for your money. I get the whole 'to your own spec' if you are buying an Aston Martin or something but on a Volkswagen hatchback what exactly are you going to chose, you'll go for black leather like everyone else anyway.

From the list above, the Scirocco. The Leon is a horrible mess of cheap plastic and crap styling, the Civic can't make its mind up as to whether it wants to be a fast cruiser or a hard hot hatch so it ends up doing both badly, leaving the Scirocco as the choice by default.

I'd take a used Audi S3 over every single one of them

Guys he wants a new car so lets take that. Not tell him hes wrong. Yea he would probably get a ton more car for his budget buying nearly new car though but what ever...

What other cars you looked out? How about

Clio RS
Megane RS
Focus ST

Don't get me wrong.. they're stunning to look at.. that's what got me and my Dad looking at them when it come to him choosing his company car.

He still ended up going back to BMW an hour later and walking out with an order for a 320d :)

Your Dad was chosing between a 2.0 Turbo Petrol 3 door hatchback and a diesel Saloon?

Have you considered a Mini Cooper S or is it too small?

It's absolutely brilliant and easily within your budget.

Thanks for accepting that :D

Tried the Focus, imo, cheap nasty car - fast though :P

The Renaults just don't appeal to me for the same reasons as the Ford- felt cheap.

As for the Seat comment above it felt pretty good to me - they have recently updated the inside and I can tell you its the same stuff as in the Golf

Driven but im coming from an Ibiza and tbh it felt smaller - great fun though and mighty cheap in every respect to own :D

Yet you've got the Civic and Leon on your list, arguably just as bad? Strange.

No its not. The quality of materials used in the Seat is noticeably worse than that used in the Golf. I am no Golf fan but there is absolutely no question that the Golf is a better built, better quality product than the Seat despite the common ownership and parts bin sharing.

No, he was going to have a Diesel Scirocco.. he had a 'thing' about them and wanted to have a look.

He did drive a diesel later on in the week and still didn't like it. Hence why he went back to BMW.
