You also get an M Sport steering wheel, M Sport Wheels and no less than 11 M badges  :p

Ah yah forgot about the wheel but most 335i's generally have 19's

Depends what you want from your car. Ignore the statistics the M3 does what it does in a different way to the 335i. One is new and shiny one is old and epic and I think old and epic is the way I'd go.

The downside though is that it looks as near as makes no difference identical to a 320d Coupe. Of which there are approximately 8 billion in the UK alone, 7 billion owned by leasing companies and driven by people who dont know what BMW stand for but thought it looked good and had low company car tax. This is a shame - stand out a 335i absolutely does not. It's undoubtedly an awesome car but it doesn't have the 'Whoa, is that a...' that the M3 does.

I still reckon a fair amount of people could distinguish a 335i from a 320d. Just the deep sound of the engine at idle is enough!

I'd go for the E92 335i even though it'd be a very hard call.

I will be looking at buying a warranty when the manufacturers one is up next year, don't fancy paying out to have a new turbo fitted.

Are Turbo already failing on 335i Cars? If so that is terribly poor for cars that aren't even 5 years.

On the otherhand If it's "OMG, Twin Turbo" scaremongering, Look after your turbos and they'll look after you ;).

Were there not problems with E60 535ds too?
BMW's twin-turbo technology doesn't sound like a wise investment..

Would an SE with aero kit be a good bet? (And also paint the window chrome black)

Also is the 330i held in as high regard as the e46 engine?

I have a real itch for one of these, but a deposit seems much more sensible.

The 330i in the E92 is even better than the E46 330i. It is a newer engine than the 335i - the 335i is actually pretty much an M54 with two turbos. The 330i has an N52 - a more modern, more economical and more powerful engine.

Many purists prefer the 330i over the 335i.

Just had another look and found two cars in my budget, just a question about seats, do they look a bit "flat" like lacking in support?

Also how much is the aerokit from BMW?

330i

335i

Thats because the 330i SE doesnt have Sport Seats as standard - they are SE seats. Only the 335i SE got Sport Seats as standard.

The aerokit is about £1300 fitted.

Personally if you can hang on then I would - I reckon that in early 2011, a budget of £17-£20k will give you a choice of decent M Sport models, perhaps even sooner given the rate they are currently depreciating.

Thanks, you should do like a paid consulting gig for people buying/going to look at cars. If you were a spanner monkey I would pay for you to check it all out! But I know your a pen pusher like me, yay for economics.

Are 330i rare with sport seats?

@op I think you should go for the newer car as it has a nicer interior, which is the bit you stare at when you drive.

Show me the oily bits and I'll need to ask for help :p

There are more without than with - but they are not exactly rare. If you are not particularly bothered about power, for some reason there seems to be a plethora of 325i's out there on 07 plates milling around in the £15-18k bracket. Despite the badge they are fitted with 3 litre N52 engines developing just over 200bhp and getting you to 60 in 6.something seconds. No slouch.

I think the E92 is very colour combo dependant interior wise. Black with silver makes it look very bland - but a more interesting combo can make it look quite special indeed.

Isn't it the case of 330 running costs and 325 performance? I like the idea of an N/A engine over the twin turbo and potential problems. I've read the curve is flatter than the old style turbos, but still not like an N/A.

Also, if they share the same block and displacement, what would be required to upgrade a 325 to 330 performance?

Yes but this caveat doesn't apply if there is a compelling reason to get a 325i - and in this case it's available in greater quantity at your pricepoint than a 330i. If there were 330i's of the same age and mileage at the same price then I completely agree, but generally there are not.

Unknown.

Sorry another question, is the m sport steering wheel an option on SE cars? If not, how much is it to switch over.

Budget is only 18ish so its probably a waiting game for a full loaded m sport to drop into that range. Essentially the 335i I posted, but with the better steering wheel and preferably 330i engine.

It is an option but not one many people seem to bother with. You can obviously swap it over, its about 400 quid IIRC.

If you are not bothered about leather one of the car supermarkets had an 08 330i M Sport with alcantara for £19k.

I find car supermarket like Car Giant pick low spec'ed cars. I definitely want the wide screen Nav / bluetooth / PDC as I can't parallel park to save my life.

You got to have leather in one of those too, it just transforms the interior.

Sounds like your tastes are almost identical to mine.

I don't think your budget will satisfy your tastes until next year :)

Yeh I think if I were to skip the deposit and get a car it would need to be perfect.

Black with red leather, and spec'ed exactly as I wanted, will wait and see how it goes.
