Any Fabia vRS owners?

We are not talking about a standard one but a remapped one which has the power to weight ratio about 20bhp/ton higher than a Mk5 Golf GTI or Focus ST.

If you actually put the stats into that site for a remapped vRS it says below, most owners get in the low 14s for a 1/4 mile so that seems about right.

Power to Weight Ratio (BHP Per Ton) : 179.58
0 - 60 (Secs) : 6.19
0 - 100 (Secs) : 15.77
60 - 100 (Secs) : 9.58
Quarter Mile (Secs) : 14.60
Terminal Speed (MPH) : 96.21
Drag Strip Quarter Mile (Secs) : 14.40
Drag Strip Terminal Speed (MPH) : 97.92

I still wouldn't buy one as a 1.8T Ibiza remapped which is cheaper to buy would be knocking out over 200bhp to the ton and as already said I would rather have a 182 Clio.

So a remapped Fabia will do 0-100 quicker than the following:

Clio V6
Elise S2 Sport 135
RX-8
Merc CL 500
535i (E39)
Boxster (2.5)
VX220
330Ci

and would do it nearly 5 seconds quicker than a 530i Sport (E39)

I drive a car with 180bhp and about the same weight as a Fabia and I can't imagine it ever being quicker than those cars.

Remapped Fabias are around 170bhp and weigh 1300kgs. Thats a bhp/tonne of ~130 so I don't know where you got 180 from. There's some hybrid Fabias on the owners club running >250bhp and stripped out but thats hardly a fair comparison.

None of the cars above in that list are particularly quick - I'm certain my ST would be faster to 100 than any of them, assuming the VX220 is an NA.

A modified ST (270bhp? & 1400kg) should be. A Fabia which has 170bhp, weighs 1300kg (hfm) and a very small powerband won't be close.

Clio V6

Fabia

310 Nm (remap to ?)
8 valves
1315 kg
1.9 litre 4 cyl
0-60 9.2 s (remap = 7.5sec~)

Really?

Add in the massive differences in the size of the powerband and the fwd/rwd differences and it's just not possible.

Exactly, vRS owners seem to think they own some hot hatch killing wonder car that the rest of us don't know about.

Okay so the 0-60 figures on the net (official VAG ones) are slower than in reality but you'll find lots of cars are like that, even with a remap it's not going to as quick as V6 Clios, 3 litre BMWs and Elises!

The 0-60 time of the Fabia is out. And it ramaps to 400nm of torque. But you're still right.

I replied to your email btw Peerzy, did you get it?

Aware the 0-60 is out - added an extra post on that bit.

Yeah I've just got it this morning, trust email gets a lot of spam so don't check it that often. Bravo for writing that all on an iPhone I'm gonna reply in a bit, cheers!

I was going by the last rolling road day I was at 189bhp and 290lbft, it had the PD160 airbox and I think the intercooler. The owner informed us that that it was 1165kg with him in it on a weigh bridge which at the time didn't seem unrealistic. I never realised they are quoted as 1.3 tons that is similair to my Mk5 Golf which seems a bit excessive for a Fabia especially when you feel how little weight is in the doors. He was certainly pulling away from my Mk5 Golf GTI on the way home which hits 100 somewhere in the high 16s.

If it does weigh 1.3 tons I will admit I must be wrong as there is no way it will hit 100 in under 16 seconds but owners do get them in the mid to low 14s 1/4 miles and quote 0-100 in the 15s which is not unrealistic for a car doing low 14s 1/4 miles or a car which I thought had around 175bhp to the ton. Autocar also clocked a standard car to 60 in 7.2 seconds but not sure under what circumstances as this does seem a little quick.

I'd think the 1.9l derv engine would be pretty heavy, maybe one of the 3cyl petrol Fabia's weighs less. It's also not a small car, I had one as a courtesy car and it felt a lot bigger (especially rear leg room and boot space) compared with other superminis.

7.2 seems stupidly quick. How can something with 130bhp and a small powerband be only 0.2sec slower than a 200bhp Golf GTi with a bigger petrol engine and proper turbo that weights roughly the same.

I dont know what your source for that time is, but the 530i Sport does 0-60 and 0-100 in not an awful lot less time than a 330Ci - given the similar weights. It is infact almost identical performance wise to the 535i - the 535i has only circa 10bhp but weighs almost 100kg more.

I simply looked on the link Howard had posted, and noticed the E39 530i Sport was done at 19 odd seconds, 330i's were about 16seconds and the wonder Fabia is apparently early 15's...

I do think the site is off I remember Fox saying a 530i will do 0-100 in 16 odd seconds which for a car with around 150bhp to ton is about right.

A MK5 Golf GTI will hit 60 in 6.5 seconds which as been timed by many reviewers. I don't know in what circumstances Autocar timed the vRS but 7.2 seems too quick but they always use GPS timing gear.

The site posted above it says 19.2 to 100.

It will differ car to car and driver to driver.

I do 0-60 in 7 dead and I've kept up with a MK5 Golf GTi giving it the beans till about 60mph when I stopped gunning it.

The site does seem way off with 0-100 times but it was the only one that had been posted so I just took from it, the point still stands even if the figures are wrong the Fabia is not that quick and even with a remap is not as quick as it is being made out to be.

It's weird how so many people miss the point when it comes to budget motoring. Spending 7 grand on a small derv is nutz to me.
My Derv Polow stands me in around 500 quid & thats, bought, taxed, All wheel bearings replaced, Good rubber all round, Cam belt & pulley done & decent ICE & MOT. I must have done 10-15k since having it & get between 50 - 60mpg, Now that is Budget motoring.
Spending a few grand a year to keep an old German rep barge going or spending 7 grand on a budget motor is just mental.
Talk about Twisted logic.

OP.
Spend a Grand on a one owner low mileage small derv & do 6 grand on summit that is Worth it.

Where have I stated that I want budget motoring?

A banged up old derv may be your cup of tea, but it isn't mine.

As someone suggested earlier, I'm far more inclined to keep the ST now and replace the Mondeo with something more fun for when I want to bomb around on my own (Clio 172/182 or similar).
