The USA is still a 3rd world country

Way to get hyperbolic! Go you!

The guy is on Death Row. He's been given the option of humane lethal injection or firing squad.

He went with firing squad.

Just a LITTLE different than you suddenly deciding you want to drunk-drive into children.

Jeeze, at least put SOME effort into your argument.

Totally agree, I think the OP wanted to vent his own issue and expect others to simply agree.

Personally I think I'd rather go by firing squad than by lethal injection or electric chair. At least it's quick.

Yeah, I would go for firing squad too.

Why on earth would you choose to die in this way? They fired at his chest not his head, so you don't die instantly. The heart stops beating, but you're still surely conscious for a good few seconds after being shot.

They fired at his heart.

I remember watching a program about execution. Can't remember who presented it but the presenter experimented and researched on the best ways of execution and he came to the conclusion that nitrogen was the best way to die. Painless and you pas away in joy.

He then asked people what they though and they said the whole reason they don't do painless executions is because "why do they deserve a painless death?".

P.S. I've heard the lethal injection is far from painless also. People writhing in pain? No thanks.

I have a funny feeling it was James May.

You've gotta remember America is a religious country.
Now no offence to religious people but a lot of them have their head in the clouds, less focused on reality. Thats maybe not a bad thing in a lot of cases, probably a perfectly happy existance, trouble with it is they don't always consider the implications of actions and can end up making bad decisions as they haven't looked at the real big picture and thought about how their actions are actually going to effect others.

Thats my theory on it, certain bits of America are a bit backwards, all the money and stupidity you could grab.

Since 83% of 'religious people' in america are Christians and the new testiment forbids killing and judging others, I find it far more realistic that America's problems are caused by its culture, not by its religion. If a christian wants to kill someone its because they're a twisted human, not a twisted christian.

Capital punishment is wrong but many disagree, I just hope it never makes its way back into this country.

He killed 2 people with a gun, so now he chose to die by that same methdod. Eye for an eye and all that I guess.

LOL @ OP...all of a sudden USA is a 3rd world country because some guy whos on death row wants to go out via a firing squad through his own free will and choice??...you just couldnt make it up could you??.

Utterly roffletastic from the OP.

Calling it third world is a bit over the top in my opinion but I do think the US is very backwards in a lot of ways compared to other developed countries, and their continued use of capital punishment and the methods they use for it are one example of that. The only other developed country I can think of that still practices it is Japan.

For those that are wondering about this specific case, here's a bit more info.

And according to that link, the chart at the bottom shows that China leads all when it comes to exections with 1000+ reported....obviously not 100% confirmed.

So then according to the OP China is a 3rd world country too??:p

I too seen this, was on TV a few years ago IIRC. Also, IIRC (heh) there were a few people who explained the first stage of this so called lethal injection, it supposedly renders you incapable of movement, yet your inners feel as if they're on fire ... no thanks. I'd opt to be shot too.

Lethal injection when done properly is just one drug, pentobarbital which painlessly puts you to sleep and kills you. That's also how animals and humans are euthanized.

Genesis 9:5-6 "Because of his unique standing in creation, whoever takes man's life is to forfeit theirs."

The bible doesn't support it in the new testament (There is argument the old does), and I wont get into that. What I'm saying is a lot of strict christians are so far seperated from reality that they don't always consider the implications of their actions.

In terms of consideration for human rights? China certainly wouldn't rank highly on the scale. I'd be extremely loathe to hold them up as a model of a justice system since their legal system itself is relatively in its infancy and they do not have the sort of safeguards or approach to trials that we would consider essential here.

However since they are a country with the death penalty the sheer size of the country and corresponding population numbers mean that they are liable to execute more in absolute numbers even if in percentage terms it may be lower than say Iran (I don't know either way here, particularly since neither gives an accurate figure).
