Hiya guys.

Just wondering since my 9600gt is starting to die on me now after 3 years of use or something. Would a XFX 5850 be a wise upgrade choice? more worried about warrenty ect incase it fails or such.

my budget is around the £260 mark So i decided to go with the xfx 5850 but i am also considering the HIS iCooler V Radeon 5850 Turbo card.

so if you were me which one would you go for?

Thing is i have never heard of HIS or XFX So im a little worried on warrentys and such.

also my System specs are as follows.
I7 930 overlocked to 3.8ghz
6 gig ddr3 ram
9600gt(to be replaced)
corsair 750 watt psu

Also another thing that maybe someone can help me on. The reason for this upgrade is something wierd keeps happening with my pc where i get ramdom slow downs. Like windows will freeze Ect games will run much slower untill i restart my pc then its Fast again then like 2 hours later its slow again untill i restart?

Any idea what may be causing these Slow downs? As its really annoying having to restart every time to speed it back up could it be gpu related?

also the system is like 2 months new apart from the gpu being 3 years old or so.

HIS is just as old as PowerColor and Sapphire. It's one of the companies that back in the day produced cards for ATi before the were "licensed" for production under their own company names.

I have an XFX HD5850 Black Ed. card and it works flawlessly.

Sounds like your over heating, check the temps asap.

My thought is that all the cards are bascially the same, so just buy the cheapest one. ;)

mmm Sounds like whats overheating?
gpu? or cpu?

last time i checked the temps on my cpu it sat idle around 30c to 35c

Gpu while gaming sits at around 60c

Cheers

Yeah the gpu, that does sound a tad too high, try running them at full speed on your fans and see if it make any difference.

Yeah that does explain it to be honest. Soon as i get home from work ill speed up the fans on the gpu Eitherway as im replacing it hopefully it can last a week before i bin it:P

Cheers

Noticed that it also sits around 40c to 50c idleing! That dosnt sound normal for a card to idle around but maybe thats the norm with nvidia 9600gt's? not to sure but im pretty sure it must hit around 60 to 70c while gaming ill test that out tonight after some heavy gaming on crysis and garrys mod. and ill post back int he morning with what temps it hit during gaming on max settings ect

also i have ordered my new gcard today its a xfx 5850 1gb Cant wait to get it then fit it!
