Is my 4870X2 dying? ADVICE NEEDED

I remember someone ended up getting a 5970 in exchange from a 4870x2, this was when the 5970 just released as well.. guess some companies think differently.

I will never buy Powercolor again. From my experience it is pretty much impossible to RMA directly through them as they have no Customer support in the UK!
OcUK sorted the problem very well in the end but I will always check to make sure the manufacturer has some sort of presence in the UK before I buy a product now.

Ok, the two 5770's arrived today. Hooray I hear you cry. Nooo, neither card comes with a crossfire connector, Why is everything so bloody difficult

I'm asking OCUK if they'll send me one, but I doubt it as they don't stock them from what I can see.

I've not tried either of them out yet (footy's on in a bit!) but one thing that's worrying me is the fan on them. These powercolor cards have a very basic fan set up it seems, not an exhaust type thing like on the picture, just a very simple 'open' heatsink and fan with a TWO PIN CONNECTOR.

This has set alarm bells off, as doesn't that mean the fan will just spin at one speed, and you can't control it with any software (like I did on my 4870x2?).
Reason I'm worried is the GT240 I bought to tide me over has a 2 pin fan, and it only spins at one speed - fast all the time and it's very loud and nasty....

A two pin fan can be voltage controlled - they are DC after all. Just test it and see I guess.

I did laugh on the whole Crossfire connector front, though OcUK have probably got a couple laying around.

Most ATI cards auto control the fan - just try and see. The 5xxx series aren't known for being loud or hot (unlike the 2870X2 and GT240).

Crossfire connections are cheap anyway (did you not keep the one from the 4870X2?) - a silly oversight by them though.
