So I'm almost finished getting the parts for my budget gaming PC build, just waiting for it all to arrive now!

Anyway, the last part is the GPU. Having been looking around for a few days, it seems the Radeon 5770, Geforce GTX260 or Radeon 4870 seem to be the best options for me. The max my monitor can give is 1280x1024, and I don't have any intention of upgrading it soon since most of the time I game on the 360 on my 42" TV.

From what I can tell, the 5770 seems to be the best option since it is about the same as both the GTX260 and 4870, just more energy efficient and has DX11, so some future proofing there. Ram wise, I believe you can get 512mb and 1Gb versions? Now for the res I'm gaming at, i think 512mb should be fine right?

Here are the rest of the specs for my budget build:

C2D E6300 (will be OC'd as much as possible, aiming at 3Ghz)
Asus P5K-E WiFi
4Gb DDR2-667
Akasa PaxPower 500w PSU

Obviously the CPU will limit the GPU if its not overclocked, so ill do my best to get it as high as I can. Budget wise, I don't want to spend anymore than what the most expensive out of the three cost, so I guess no more than £120 at max. Would like that to come down to £100 or less if possible, don't mind second hand of course.

Any help/ideas would be appreciated!

the 5770 is an awesome card for the price

it will max out any game @ 1920 x 1200

i know this because i had 1, now i have 2 :)

@ your resolution, a 5770 would be good, but the res will hold the card back

Yea the 5770 is pretty powerful for the res, but I'm just thinking ahead since obviously you will need more power for the latest games. Since I game at that low a res, then theoretically it should be good for a few years. I think anyway :p

ye it should :)

you can always add another if you wanted, if you upgraded your monitor :)

Would the P5K-E be capable of Crossfire? I know it has another PCI-E slot, but I think it runs at 4x? If that makes a difference?

But thats a bit far down the line atm! ;) I need to find the first card before I think of a second :D

Is £95 for an "Asus Radeon HD5770 512MB" good? Brand new with everything etc.

Seems cheap enough to me?

Are you buying it off someone else? Just make sure to get the receipt for your warranty.

Its off the auction site. Says brand new, sealed, so i assume the warranty card would be inside with the rest of the documents?

EDIT: Well I bought it anyway :p For £90 + £5 P&P, I couldn't say no. Probably overkill for me, but at least it will future proof me for awhile :)
