My Canon 24-70 f/2.8L and 50 f/1.2L Lenses For Sale

I think everyone knows whats going on here. I know because I thought the same thing although I wouldn't of done it I would have just been happy to strike a bargain.

I actually feel sorry for the other genuine people in this thread who would have actually bought this at the bargain price Spie had offered and actually used it.

Enough said. I kinda thought Spie offered it up here at a bargain price for a forum member to take benefit from rather than turn a profit.

I'd be a bit pee'd If I was Spie but then he probably has so much money he doesn't care :D

Couple of things to say here. I did plenty of soul searching before I put an offer in for this lens when it originally came up as I knew full well then that it was unlikely it would get a massive amount of use by me. Despite what you all may think I did not originally buy it to turn a profit - it looks like an obvious thing to do but that was not my initial intention. It was not until yesterday when I went out to grab some shots and the 50 stayed in the bag all day that I began to have second thoughts about carrying around such a specialized bit of kit. I now realise that it does indeed look like bad form and that other members may well look at it as grabbing it from the community to profiteer from. That was not some sort of calculated plan on my part. I don't like the idea of s^^ting on the ocuk community, I like it here and I've been a member here for a long time.

As such, if any one on here offers me the £600 I got it for from Spie then they can have it. I've already sent an email to the guy who initially missed out on the original thread to see if he's still interested. If it gets sold elsewhere in the interim then that's life and that's tough.

I can't say fairer than that.

Nice one :) I'd snap it up but funds are low after buying the 120-300mm. Well I'm skint not to put to fine a point on it! Although I could sell the 24-70...

You might want to check with Spie who made the second offer as I did make an offer but you'd just got in there just before me :D

Why would he be pee'd off? he got the amount he was asking for

Trick, I don't believe you bought the item to make a profit, I have bought items before (quite expensive ones at that) and found that once I had them in my possession they weren't quite what I was wanting so I sold them on Ebay, some of them I managed to get back more than I paid. You were selling the item elsewhere and rightly you were asking for the market value as anyone would. I'm not sure what anybody saying "poor form" would have expected you to do, sell the item elsewhere cheaply so somebody else could get a bargain?, keep the item without using it? etc etc

Now that is very good form, I take back my comment.

Thanks for the responses guys.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing. If I had done this properly I should have reopened this thread and let everyone here know that I didn't intend to keep the lens and that I would offer it for the price that Spie did for a limited time before going to other forums to put it up for general sale. That would have been the community thing to do and I wish I'd done it. I didn't and I feel an amount of regret.

When the thread first arrived I happened to be in the right place at the right time to get a complete and utter bargain. Anyone else could have offered the 600 asking price and would have had it instead, but they didnt and Spie sold it to me. The lens is now mine, to do with as I please. As such, if I wish to sell it for what I believe is the market value then that is my prerogative.

I haven't had a reply back yet about the 600 offer I made this morning. I realize that it's a Saturday morning and many of the regulars might not have logged in yet and seen the offer but there's not much I can do about that.

An offer has been made on TP and I've accepted it. If it falls through I'll let interested parties know.

One last thing to clear up. I do not believe this lens is a bad copy. I believe it is perfectly fine and my own test have satisfied me on this point. I am not selling this because I think it's a dud. It's a 50 1.2 L made in 2007 and as such displays all the characteristics that all 50s of that age do. No one should buy a 50 L without researching them first and accepting the foibles that go with it.

I think thats a great idea. Shame you don't want to use it because you are truly holding onto a bargain. On reflection Spie running a business he prob bought it -VAT anyway.

Still I think whoever gets this lens next should be happy they struck a bargain.

Also. Maybe if you relist in this thread to people who were interested at the £600ish mark and then if no one takes a stab at it maybe sell it on for more on another forum. Just looked that way because you hadn't listed it here.

If there's no one else in the queue then I'll take it at asking, I'll just have to eat beans for a while! It will get a LOT of use from me. :)

Gents I think you've posted whilst I was writing my response above. It's provisionally sold to a guy who's made an offer through PM to me on TP. Like I said, if that falls through then I'll get back to you.

Sorry, just read that. Good luck with the sale.

Even if you did have the intention to sell it immediately, you bought it so it's no one's business really. You can do what you want with something you've bought!

I think it's more down to the spirit of things, whilst technically it is his property since it was a trade there's a gentlemanly unspoken agreement which really everyone should understand that it's not bought to profit from.

It's clear that Spie sold the lens at a big second hand discount as this is a community of people who are all active on his forums.

It's similar to doing your friend a favour by selling your car to them for a discount rate and then them selling the car at a profit not long after. I think you'd probably be a bit miffed you've done your friend a favour and he's now made the money that really should have gone to you.

I've shown interest in the lens purely as I would have used it for years to come. If I didn't have a use for the lens I would not have bought it, even at the bargain it was.

Trick has said he genuinely didn't buy the lens to profit from anyway and he just didn't use it, so I'm not accusing him of buying purely to profit from but just to answer your reply.

This isn't sour grapes by the way either! I'm sort of glad I didn't get to buy it (there were a few others in front of me so very slim chance I would have got it anyway) as I don't really have the cash to be splashing on nice glass at this time but for that price it would have been silly for me not to jump on it and save the cash further down the line! :D

I think you've summed it up well Mint Sauce.

Surprised it was bought purely to sell on tbh. If I'd known that I would have sold it to someone who would have used it.

No hard feelings and Trick hasn't done anything really terrible, it's just slightly bad form imo.

Don't you work in retail? :p

In which case I owe an apology firstly to you Mark and secondly to the Photography community here on OcUK. It was not and is not my intention to screw people on here over. As I said in a post higher up on this page, if I had thought about it some more I should have put it back up on here first before offering it to the wider photography community.

Sorry to all involved in the thread.

Accepted, but don't worry. It's nothing serious.
