Can anyone explain why this happens

When I turn on my system, all the lights and leds etc etc come on and startes to post, then sometimes ( once or twice a week ) it will turn off before it gets to the GIGABITE splash screen and reboots.
But then when it reboots its lost ots OC and I have to go into the bios, and reload the saved OC settings.

any ideas ? not a prob just annoying at times

That happens typically when the overclock is unstable. Sometimes on a cold boot they throw a wobbly. I've had other gigabyte boards do this for no particular reason too though, but that was back in the old P35 days and I'm pretty sure the problem was fixed.

So I'd say it points towards unstable O/C unless it's a known issue.

lol its a Gigabyte thing. Had this with my DS3/DS4 965P, P35 DS3 and X38 DQ6, later Bioses seems to have solved the issue on the DS3 965 P35 and X38 but the DS4 can run for weeks on full load with no issue but one reboot out of say 10 throws it for a loop and loses OC, even did it at stock setting!

Update the BIOS. I'm using the same board with bios F11 (maybe even F12). If that doesn't work. Try clearing the CMOS and start again with the OC

This seems to happen every now and again with Gigabyte boards. I'm not entirely sure what the cause is. Sometimes the boards can go for weeks without doing it. I've used boards that have been running Linx and Prime for days on end overclocked, and then they'll randomly do it during a cold boot.

Not really a deal breaker, just a quick press of F12 once you're in the BIOS to reload a profile, but I can understand how it could be annoying.

I have an external DVD ram drive plugged in yes

i find with my gigabyte board that from a cold boot where the external drive hasnt spun up the board resets to default settings loosing the overclock because of the length of time spent waiting for the external drive to check in maybe a similar issue for you if there is a disc in the dvd ram drive?
