Nurburgring Visit 2010

Having been inundated with no emails, due to popular demand the HD version on youtube is finally done:

:( I want to go back!

I would have to go for a week next time and get at least 1 day out there taking photos! Great pics, love the ring-taxi one from behind! No Sabine while you were there?

I'm going in 2 days... bricking it! :/

Hire a stage 2 Suziki Swift from rent4ring.de!!

They're just behind the Rewe supermarkets in Adenau, great little cars and fully insured etc. Reasonably priced too :)

Nope didn't see her at all, saw a 911 GT3 RS that seeemed to be owned by her, but no appearance from the lady herself

@Spaz - What setup did you use for the videos?

I'm using the 2nd gen Flip Mino which I think is a fantastic bit of kit really for what it is, I have it mounted on a Manfrotto 3D junior camera head, which itself is mounted on a manfrotto superclamp:

I knew there'd be a purpose for all that scaffolding :D

Are cameras allowed on the Ring now?

i.e. if I was to have a tripod on my back seat, would they let me on?

Although I managed to get 2 vids I was still sneaky about it, as I wasn't sure if the people on the barriers would get shirty, I had my mount all set up (tbh I always leave it on in the car as it doesn't really intrude) and then once past I just went and fitted the camera on, which was fairly quick and easy to do. Then once I got past the gantry and onto the long straight I took it off again just in case.

It's the sort of thing you *may* get away with...but I just didn't want to risk it with the wrong person on the wrong day and taking a massive dislike to you about it and kicking me off/out.

My recommendation is to do something like i did if you can, which might be tricky but I think it's about the only way to be safe. Something one of the other guys I went with did was to get a cheap suction mount (off ebay I think) to stick on the window, had all the camera set up and then his passenger would just stick it on the window once past the barriers.

Nice thread :)

Lovely pics and nice vid, I want to go. Not sure how my swift sport will do lol.

How much (about) did it cost you for a few day? if you don't mind.

Costs can be quite cheap and all depends on how many laps you do really, but this is how much it cost for me for the recent trip:

Hotel (4 Nights) - €140 / £120
Ferry - £36 return
Ring Laps x 6 = €119
Food = €70
Fuel ~4 tanks = £200
Total = £514 + a bit*

*Few other bits and bobs like breakdown cover and extended insurance cover, but that all depends on what you've got already.

It's a trip that certainly can be done for less if you want, especially if you don't stay for as long or have a more economical car, but it's not really a cheap getaway, but the cost could be spread out over a little bit (e.g. paying for hotel and ferry before you go).

I wouldn't worry about your car either, there were some quick little swifts going round there!

Not actually as costly as I thought.

Nice

Might see if my cousin is up for it when he finishes his 205 :D

;)

I went for 6 days, got back yesterday. Only managed 2 laps which I was a bit annoyed about. Tried to get on again on Saturday but it had closed early for some reason.

Quickest lap was 12:12 but they were both relatively easy and I certainly wasn't going to give it death. 1st lap I spent most of it staying out of the way of the other cars to get a feel for the track and on the 2nd, I started to get brake fade part way through so had to ease off.

Absolutely epic fun though! Nothing can prepare you for the experience. Itching to go back next year!
