My new pet

These look like really cool pets. What sort of tank/ cage do you keep them in? Also what do you feed them i saw one guy on youtube feeding them live fish!

From the photo I would guess at male, it looks like 7 segments, I'm no expert though :)

My Congo is going through a rough patch at the moment, I think he's on the verge of a shed; very wobbly and gone off his food. Can also see the trademark wings showing through, doesn't look quite big enough to shed to a full adult however, ah well will find out soon enough. I'm hoping he sheds before this weekend cause I've got to transport him to my new rent-a-room, a train ride and walk away :/

Edit: Your miomantis sp look well good mate.

Apparently my ghost is still ill even after her shed, her netting has more reddish black patches from her vomit, kinda not looking good - just mixing some sugar and water to give her some goodness back and keeping her fairly still.

Orchid died :(

However the Ghosts are still going strong :)

I read somewhere that honey/honeywater on a cotton swab is a good 'pick-me-up' for them. Rather similar to sugar water though

WOW nice pic. never thought i'd see the insides of a fly in such detail.

Yea i mixed some brown sugar and luke warm water and she loved it, she seemed to pick up ever so slightly after it, so fingers crossed its what she needed to start recovering from whatever she has.

Is she adult/sub-adult? Damn, she grew fast!

She has been adult for a while now :) Greedy git she is

Just bought these 2 little critters as well :

An Egyptian Mantis called Alan:

And a fire millipede called Betty:

Bought the Millipede for the GF as she thought it was pretty :)

And a random picture of my corn in the bath after a slightly dodgy shed, all fine now though :

Any chance a MOD could re-name this thread "Exotic Pets" or something similar would be great to see what other weird and wonderful things people have :)

I guess mine should be due a shed soon then going by past sheds! Hope yours gets better too! :)

I would have thought so, they have been very close indeed..Anyway she has picked up a lot since her sugar boost so heres 2 pics of her, shes become a lot more interested in the camera and wont stay still long enough lol

I'm looking into purchasing a Bearded Dragon as I quite miss owning my snakes. All my previous reptiles have been nocturnal/diurnal so having a lizard that's active in the day should be cool. I've heard that Beardies are also one of the more interactive reptiles that you can get and some people even go so far as to say they have very dog-like behaviour which is cool.

Beardies will happily sit on your lap as you tickle their bellies, awesome little things if you get a couple of more...i just dont have the space for any as they need a decent size viv :(

You thought about getting a BTS? Mines great and very friendly.. Hes active during the day and will quite happily sit on me or walk about the living room when I let him out for a stroll! :)

You guys have made me really want to get a mantis now! Do you have any idea how much it would cost to get some and the gear needed. Just a ball park figure so i can see if it would be possible. Also how long do they live? Will they bread easily if you have a few of them...

Sorry, meant to edit my post and ended up quoting it ><

Generally last about 2 years, if you keep them warm and feed them a lot it will be shorter. Breeding them isnt tha hardest thing in the world, but you then need to house about 100-300 babies :p

Thanks for the response. Do they like living in little tubs! Wouldn't you get some sort of terrarium and have a whole bunch of them in there of do they eat each other? Any suggestions on where i could get some... Or if anyone has any babies they need to find a home for let me know.

They eat each other in the vast majority of cases unfortunately.

They dont really move a lot or enjoy activity a great deal so they are perfectly happy in small plastic pots :p
