Picked the Accord up today - few minor niggles

Depends if you consider juddering an adverse effect :)

Just need to give it some more revs, but that's all part of the fun of driving a VTEC y0 :D

Secondly, a few times after I got back and started it when it was warm (had been stopped for a few minutes each time), it started but died again straight away. A blip of the throttle before the revs drop and it's fine.

Pretty sure this is a sensor issue, my money would be on the crank position sensor starting to play up. Hall effect sensors are pretty heat sensitive and so effects can be made worse when the car is warm, and additionally on a cold start the car probably isn't making use of all the sensor readings.

Likewise, the warm start thing doesnt seem to be uncommon - seems a lot of owners just accept it as "one of those things"

Quit the denial and get it fixed. A car that wont start properly is not 'one of those things' especially not on a Honda. It is broken and requires fixing.

It's hardly a positive effect :p

It's not a Type R, the VTEC is there purely for extra economy not driving everywhere at 8000rpm going 'woohooo'.

Thats the intention, I was more pointing out that it's not meant to be anything serious. I'll check out that relay today and then look at the sensors if that doesnt stop it

Thats sort of the joke I was making :p

Yes I know I know, you've made that same point before. But remember my last car was an auto and the last manual I had was a torquey diesel - so part of it may just be I'm not actually giving it enough revs.

Even if it does need a new clutch, it's only 96 quid for the part and I'll fit it with my dad - he wants an excuse to use his new workshop!

not sure what age your accord is? but if its 2001 or before'ish

the common leak from the air con is

B__6001.jpg

the rubber hose has metal crimped on ends that fail

They're not meant to refill it if it's leaking... but I'd give it a few days before being too sure. They happily refilled mine. It lasted about 24 hours before producing no cold air again. Ended up with a 1200 bill for a new condenser, drier unit and some seals!

Was at my mates garage the other day and the topic of the a/c machine came up. Apparently the authorities are stepping up the regulations on it. It will become compulsory to not only do a vac test but a pressure test also. Apparently vac testing commonly fails to identify leaks. They will also be required to keep logs of exactly how much refrigerant has been recovered and charged into cars, and they will be subject to random inspections just like they are for MOTs.

Can only be a good thing.

Either way welcome to the world of older cars, where random repair bills become part of your monthly outgoings..

Really? I didn't get that memo. My Golf has cost me a total of..........£12 in repairs in the 18-months I've owned it so far ;)

If its only going to cost 100 quid stick a clutch in, no point detracting from the whole drive to not spend that.

Glad its working out for you anyway.

The vac test obviously can only put the system under a max pressure differential of 1bar, whilst under normal operating conditions the internal pressure can reach 3bar or so.

Well the ac is still nice and chilly a few days later :)

Did a bit of research and apparently replacing the clutch fluid normally cures a juddering clutch. On closer inspection, the clutch fluid is manky and brown so a few quid on dot4 and that should hopefully be sorted too.

The service book seems to suggest the cutting out is the idle control valve so that'll get a clean at the weekend.

Got a decent alpine head unit fitted last night too which has made that much more bearable, I couldn't listen to chris moyles talk about football for much longer!

So it's working out really well so far, it's using a lot less fuel than the Saab. Picked up a nice crack in the windscreen courtesy of a lorry, but that could have happened in any car!

Can't hurt to replace it I guess, but I'm 95% sure it won't make a difference to the judderiness of the clutch take-up. Might make the pedal feel a bit firmer but that's it

There's more than a few people on the accord forum saying it cured juddering. Judging by the colour of it, it can't hurt to replace it anyway!

Quite disappointed with the stock speakers though, trying to keep my eye on the fact that this was a money saving exercise and not get bitten by the audio bug again!
