hi im building a new pc soon but not sure on the gpu, i've always had nvidia, is it worth the extra for the 480gtx, will my psu be powerful enough, heres the spec

Case Coolermaster HAF X
Motherboard Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R
Processer Intel Core i7 920
CPU Heatsink Prolimatech Megahalems Rev B
Memory Corsair XMS3 6GB
Graphics Card Asus ATI Radeon HD 5870 or ocuk 480gtx
Optical Drive 1 Sony Optiarc AD-7260S
Optical Drive 2 Sony Optiarc AD-7260S
Hard Drive 1 OCZ Vertex 2E 120GB
Hard Drive 2 Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB SATA 6Gb/s 64MB
Hard Drive 3 Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB SATA 6Gb/s 64MB

Even though the 480GTX is slightly faster for me it's not worth the extra expense, heat and power consumption.

if u are going to oc get evga gtx 480, before stock cooling its barely exceed 90 as nvidia said its normal for this gpu

now i am on water oc 850 mhz on gpu da 201 gb/sec on memory on stock volts its nevers pass 55 celsius. it very power hungru but good power supply as mine 750 will be more than enoungh

I'll be ocin the CPU only will my psu be enough

With the rest of your system, probably not. I'd go 5870 if I were you (well I did).

Quieter, cooler, use less power, cheaper. Sure, they're slower in some games but it's not by a ridiculous amount.

Get the 5870 as Ati is much better If you are gonna give out the cash for a good 480 you might as well buy the 5970 which is significantly better!

GTX 480 all the way. Only because the drivers are much more stable and don't have as many glitches as the ATI drivers.

Your PSU should be fine most PSU's usually run higher than there said output it could probably safely run at least ~700W

Have a search on google and have a look at some benchmarks. This will give you a good idea of performance from the different cards. Just depends how much you want to pay for a card. Also depends which 5870 you want or which 480 as there are many different options. It is confusing the hell out of me as well!! haha

If your used to nvidia and can afford the extra outlay for nvidia then go for it, just make sure you dont mind the noise :) my friends just got one and it sounds like a hoover lol

Haha i kinda agree. The 480 seems to be better in performance from what i have just been looking at but depends whether you think it is significant enough to justify the extra cash...

i'll be using my current psu which is a zalman 600 watt
Your PSU is fine go for it. I only have a 700watt PSU plus loads of other hardware & its 100% stable at all times. Forget trying to overclock it as well they are fast enough @ stock the extra few FPS are not worth the extra heat/noise.

As long as your case has reasonable ventilation & at least 3/4 case fans you will be fine.
