Looking to help my friend find a new car, he traded his boost leaking MK IV GTI in about 3 months ago and got what is pretty much a dog of a S Reg 323i, badly lowered and silly spoiler, don't think he was thinking straight when he wanted to buy something "cheap" for "hassle free motoring!"

His budget is about 3k including part-ex on the BMW, guessing something like an '02-'03 Mondeo 2.0 Petrol might do him nicely either in Zetec or Ghia spec, he knows he'll get a bit better economy and smaller bills if things do go horribly wrong again, would this be a fair idea to go for? :)

Cheers

I wouldnt say that without viewing it. Bound to be a catch.

Oh yeah, I know, but I meant more in the way of dogs at that price = good prices for better quality ones, good sign!

Can you're mate handle V6 running costs? Just get a 1.8 or 2.0 petrol and leave it there.

He can handle the fuel and servicing costs etc.. no problem, but his BMW is an absolute munter and its the repairs that are crippling him. Hoping he'll see sense and stick with a 2.0 petrol.

High miles, less popular v6. It does seem a bit too cheap but not out of the realms of possibility if he's had it a while

This is already reflected in the true value of the car. This one is dodgy.

Or at least you should hope it is, because if it's possible to get a decent 02 Mk3 Ghia X V6 for 1200 quid, then what on earth are you doing in that broken old Honda :D

When I was looking I saw a few v6s with high miles for 1500 odd. That one is also a saloon (less desirable to most mondeo buyers) and has at least one scuff on the bumper.

It's not going to be a minter, but its not impossible that it's something other than a dog

It's also not impossible that BMW will deliver me a new 335i tommorrow for services to the brand.

It is, however, unlikely. Perhaps as unlikely as that being a nice V6 Mondeo.
