I'm supposed to be on a 24meg unlimited package, but BT's old copper line is so crap, so much noise is in the line the speed is affected so much :(

Being as everyones getting in on the act, not too bad really in my area but apparently BT and virgin will offer cable services in Wolverhampton from the end of this month, we shall see

I feel your pain, no, hold on, i don't! :D

All i need to do is think back to the days of 14.4, 28.8 and then the super fast 56.6 days we used to have and the amount of time it used to take to download dodgy pictures (you didnt bother with movies then, took too long). Oh, and along with those connections there weren't any data/connection tariffs for uber long phonecalls, i think my biggest phone bill for a quarter was £650 from Quake and Unreal gaming and also downloading pictures for my err biology a-level..........

:)

50mb max here in my area, to be upgraded to 80 in december and 120mb after iirc.
Jealous of an area couple of miles from mine where they already have fiber.

the only trouble i have is at peek times, which is the only time that really matters!!! i just wish it would go back to how it was just over a year ago, i didnt have this problem :s, everytime i bring it up they say it s bottlneck happening at peek times at the exchange and its BT's fault, bla i dont know :(

like now im getting 6meg, which is cool, if it stayed like that at peek times so i can actualy play with my mates then id be over the moon, but it just does not happen anymore for me.

Yep, I miss cable. I was one of the first in Glasgow to get cable many moons ago and then I moved to the coast and have had to put up with crappy speeds. There is little chance of getting cable here. It almost makes me sad for some people in the town close to my house where there are several streets where one side get cable and one side don't. It must be galling to know that you are only a few feet away from a great download speed.

The annoying thing with my village is our road being new is about the only one there is with no Virgin. They bombard us with fliers and we can't have it. They were offered to come and lay the cable and they declined. They wouldn't have had to do any digging they could have just layed it early on.

In all honesty the problems I've had with ADSL I'd give virgin a grand and sign a contract for the rest of my days in this house if they came and connected me up.

Had a rather bizzare twist of luck at the end of last week. Was happily browising the interwebs and the connection dropped and came back after afew minutes. No problem I thought just one of those things. Opened up my router stats and was greeted with an interesting stat, my downstream speed had jumped to 8mb from the staggering 1mb I am paying for. Hopped onto speedtest webby and low and behold.

I can now happily use SkyPlayer on the Xbox, no constant buffering :D Youtube has perked up no end too! Strangely though I can only seem to hit a max download speed of 150kb/s for files. Still who cares so long as they dont realise.

I'm stuck on nasty old copper. My line syncs at 6mb on normal broadband, no sign of llu here yet.

I live in a cable franchise area, the streets around mine are all virgin media. Telewest came round and put holes by our front steps and ran fiber upto the start of the street. There was a big fall out with the housing developer and Telewest and it was never installed :(.

I emailed virgin a few months back about them expanding here and they got in touch with the local authorities, sent a guy out to have a look and then emailed me with their findings.

To fiber up my street it would cost approx £500 per home (53 homes). Their current budget is £300 per home so at this moment in time they cannot role fiber out to us. They did say should the budget change then they would be looking at my street. It really annoys me that at the bottom of my garden there is a cycle path with virgin fiber under it.

So close yet so far.
