Is it just me or is £3.90 (for an hour) expensive? Junior is priced at £2

I seem to remember when it was a quid or so!!

What's everyone else's prices like?

About £2 odd at our local pool for an adult to take the kids swimming for as long as you like in the training pool. It's free if they are under 2, and my eldest gets in free with his swimming lessons card.

I can't remember what I used to pay - And I've not been swimming in ages

However, the gym I go to has a swimming pool and I only pay £2.50 to get into the gym (Swimming included)

£4 quid here but thats for as long as you like (in a laned pool) but all the pools round here are free for U16/O65

KaHn

Free here, out local pools full ofscreaming kids so we swim in rivers instead.
I remember it being about £4 for all day with a locker about 8 years ago though (adult) and £3 for kids)

£3.90 in Milton Keynes but its not timed. You normally get as long as you want, they do operate a banding system but each time I’ve been its never being enforced.

To be honest, me and missus pay a flat £20 a month each and we get all the swimming we want. We normally go three or four times a week, so paying a flat fee of £20 a month usually means its costing around half of the standard entry rate fee.

Problem with our swimming is that we only go to do lengths. 25m pool, 30 – 35 lengths followed by steam room afterwards, its about 40 min session. So £3.90 for less then a hours workout is kinda expensive.

But is the only form of exercise we like that can’t be done at home.

Please to hear free swimming for under 16’s has been scrapped. Honestly, please don’t get me wrong but the pool around us as soon as that scheme was introduced just ended up with kids going for a dos around… The pool was full of kids splashing and throwing balls around. The ones who wanted a serious swim had to endure reduced lane swimming and see increases in pool area for general swim. Hopefully now that’s been scrapped, the pool might be a little less used as before by 14 – 15 year olds just messing about as they’ve got nothing better to do…

Sorry, I’m sure some parents who took their under 16’s for a free swim will be quite annoyed at the scraping of the under 16’s free swim scheme… not me however.

From a selfish perspective it really is annoying having loads of Kids filling up the pools, but realisticly I’d prefer them filling up the pools and splashing around than playing in the streets.

I guess ideally you just need an 18+ pool kept separately (or even a "fun" pool to keep kids away from serious swimmers).

Oh and ~£3 for as long as you want.

Never even got introduced in sunny Stoke (as the council is already in a deep red hole I imagine) Cannot say I am too fussed to see it go (even as a parent) as it isn't much benefit imo

Prices vary from £3-4 per session here. As above though, I have a gym membership to one that has a swimming pool.

Outdoor swimming is annoying though as its £3.60 at our only outdoor pool.

This is true. Milton Keynes do operate a 18+ lane swim after 8pm most evenings, but then they book the lanes out to swimming schools etc... General swimming on a Sunday wasn't good, we ended up going either very early sunday morning, or very late sunday evening to try and miss all the kids splashing around...

Its cancelled now, so hopefully means serious swimmers might a little better off again...

How is £3 an hour expensive?

Well, to make swimming a good workout each week, you need to go at least three - four times a week. times that by average of £3 - £4 it soon adds up over the months...

Its pointless going once a week, doing 30 - 35 lengths in a 25m pool once a week isn't going to do much for you. Do that four times a week will do much more...

Reason we both pay £20 a month, it works out a heck of a lot cheaper.

Tis £2.70 for 40 mins here, though I pay £28 a month for unlimited Gym/Swim etc which works out much cheaper for me.
