I've gotta say Microsoft Security Essentials, stays out of the way and does it's job.
I sometimes forget I have anti-virus installed![]()
Probably because it's not detecting stuff

most well written piece of Microsoft software is probably Powershell
![]()
simply a godsend when you're doing console work on windows.
the Snipping Tool, Notepad and the calculator are close runners up, however.
Powershell must be up there in useful tools. That said, I'd probably ask the question what do MS make this isn't well made or useful? You'd have a shorter list.

Remember clippy?![]()
The snipping tool is one of my favourite little programs on W7, speeded up any work I've had to do this year at uni.
I still don't like calc though, need to be able to enter a string of calculations rather than doing one thing at a time. Just a simple example say if I want to work out the radius of a sphere from its volume I need to do four separate calculations (inc noting down numbers) rather than just entering all the values at once for one calculation.
Anyone had a problem with mse? Or should I go back again, fell it may play nicer with my system....
actually, in the windows 7 calculator you can now use brackets which allows you to do it all on one line:
![]()
)Awesome I didn't realise this before, cheers. (Should be a cube root btw)

Microsoft Office, I won't pick a specific version because they have been consistently good.
Microsoft Visual Studio.
)..IMO, OpenOffice is at least as good as MS Office (and free)
