Hello all,

Don't keep in touch with the GPU market much at the moment so I need some opinions if possible. I would search, however - seeing how much change is going on at the moment; I'd like some up to date opinions and reasons.

After a basic PCI-E card, around £50-100 - can be either ATI or nVidia, dual outputs if possible - HDMI & DVI would be even better.

Anything you guys could recommend to give the best bang for your buck?

Sorry if I've missed something out, or too vague - I'll add to this post with any answers to your questions.

bit over your budget but have you looked at a 5770 ?

has what you need and is a very capable card for the money.

Hi there,

What will you be using the card for mainly? Also what resolution is the monitor it will be driving and what are the specs of the rest of the system (especially the PSU)?

With that info we should be able to recommend the very best card for your needs and budget.

Need to keep it below £100 if possible - the card itself won't actually be used for gaming that often (and nothing major - Battlefield series at most I would imagine), just needs to be capable of delivering HD content/Bluray smoothly without any issues.

Just need a general all-rounder

The 5770 definitely looks like an upgrade candidate for my sys though!

General day to day stuff, plus a tad of gaming (nothing severe) - but it needs to be capable of handling HD stuff.

Resolution, probably 1680 * 1050

PSU wise, the system is a new build - so what ever PSU is recommended for the actual card. Specification is nothing huge, dual core / 2-4 GB of RAM and a single disk.

For just HD video you don't need to spend too much, this card will happily fully decode a 1080p video. Therefore, its really down to gaming performance.

As has already been suggested, the 5770 is pretty much the best bang-for-buck card around. Due to your resolution, you could probably get away with a 512MB version of this card and only go a bit over your budget.

As for PSU, with a 5770 and a dual core - a good quality 400W would really be enough. However, if you plan on adding a second card in the future - something in the 600W range may be worth looking at. The brands to look for are Corsair, Antec, Seasonic, OCZ and Enermax.

You might want to hunt around for a HD4870, you should be able to pick these up for under a £100 now, it won't do directx 11 but it's performance is slightly better overall then a HD5770.
