I'm interested in living in a different country after I complete my Geosciences MSc, and was wondering if anyone has any experience with living around the EU? I want to do this to see the world and experience different cultures first hand, and would like to move country quite often - if this sounds weird... then meh :P

I know Norway is not part of the EU, but I believe it allows fairly unrestricted immigration - for EU members, anyway. Norway interests me very much and has great career opportunities for a Geosciences Graduate - Oil/Gas industry and Natural Heritage. The only problem with Norway is the expensive standard of living, but then again the average salary is higher and the health care system is reasonable - being that the taxes are so high, haha.

Has anyone here moved country within the EU?

I'm looking into moving to Brussels in the coming couple of years so I'm very interesting in what people have to say in this thread.

Well I now live in the Czech Republic after moving from the UK, what kind of stuff do you want to know?

Fail, ignore.

Good luck with whatever you do.

Well, not necessarily anything specific to Czech Republic, but things like how you did it, how much starting cash you had, were there any language barrier problems and what about finding accommodation and work.

No jobs in France for non-French speakers unless you work in a major city for a multi-national. Plus it's more expensive than the UK contrary to popular belief.

Ok, well what I did was arrange a job here before I moved over, it was just a temporary one in a call centre that didn't pay much but enough to live here and start looking for a real job. Accommodation was easy too, most places will have an expats website of some kind or another that makes it easier.

The main problems I had was getting used to different ways of doing things, this can be really frustrating if the thing that's different was quicker and easier back home. Language wasn't a problem as I worked for British and American owned companies with staff from all over the world so everyone speaks English, lived with a girl who speaks English and because of tourism most people speak English here, it's been 3 years and I've finally started taking Czech lessons.

I had about £2500 from when I sold my car before I came over after I finished my degree which I didn't even use so just bough more camera lenses :D
