PC gaming rawr!

No, in those days you'd be lucky to get half that...notable games anyway. More than today yes, but look at the bigger picture and see the immense amount of work & resources that go into just an average console game today, never mind PC games.

did you actually play games back then? loads of work went into old games these days its like people leave out features because they can add them in dlc or an expansion its very rare for a modern game to feel "complete" which gets on my nerves no end.

sometimes half the bloody files for the dlc ir not more are already on the disc long before the dlc is released

When looking back it's easier to remember all the good games compared to right now. Because it's very easy to forget all the rubbish that came out back then too, you only remember the good games.

Starcraft 2 will be out in a few weeks and it's going to be the best RTS until Starcraft 3, so just wait a little longer.

i'd say it's allready dead at least for the last 2 years if not more - go back a decade; it's just poor compared to what it used to be. as it stands most "popular" games on PC are actually console ports. (except MMO's but wait till those hit consoles, when publisher and platform makers can agree how to split the pie ;))

There are so many indie developers making good quality games though, granted with some technical issues. The modding community helps with those issues. So many games on the PC it's scary.

Oh and Sci-fi space sims are mainly PC exclusive so not just MMOs, Stalker also was PC exclusive as far as I'm aware. :)

PS3 has the best exclusives now

Well I'm with you there but that's another argument altogether. I was saying the reason we don't see as many games today as back then is because of the stupid amounts of money involved and the amount of time and manpower it takes to develop even an average game these days.

The pc gamers shouldnt have to accept second best. after all most of us pay premium prices on premium hardware to get the best performance in games.

and we get ports it is annoying. Especially when they have splash logos such as "nvidia the way its meant to be played"
They should change it to "consoles the way to make most money."

then you have the dlc issues, purposly missing out content on release only to sell it seperatley 5 days later, then getting "new games" which are back in the old days classed as expansion packs.

its all a joke.

i can gaurantee if a developer with a good budget made a purely pc exclusive, with no intentions of making as much profit as possible, we would see a well coded and well optimized twice the graphics as crysis, with framerates of 60fps.

heck if an xbox360 can run crysis 2 with crysis 1 graphics... god knows what pc's with new hardware today should be able to do.. but i can gaurantee yet again we will see only an extra option for "anti aligning" that runs poorly.

If this trend continues.. in all honesty there wont be any need to upgrade your pc desktop computers until the next generation of consoles. thats only if you want pc gaming.

so what sci-fi space sims can you name from the last 2 years?
wheres all the stratergy games and proper pc rpgs.
pc gaming 10 years ago you had 10 decent or better games a month now where lucky to have 10 decent games in 2 years

There are plenty of people who agree with you. The article below explains what we already knew - the cost has gone up and no one develops for niche anymore.

http://www.escapistmagazine.com/art...-Publisher-Note-10-E-for-Everyone-Except-Me.2

But you are wrong on RPGs and strategy. TWNapoleon, SC2 and C&C4 spring to mind so far this year. Lots of indy strategy on Steam too.

Proper PC rpgs? About 10 listed in this article that rounds up the 2009 rpgs:

I'm starting to think that most people if not all, who say this, remember the "good old days" to be far better than they actually were. Like a cartoon or movie that you loved as a kid, but when you revisit it in adulthood, it's utter rubbish.

Rose tinted glasses and all that.

Exactly. And if games back then were so much better, why not just play them instead of whinging about new games which you don't like? You should be glad that you won't ever have to buy new hardware and therefore have money to fund much needed therapy.

Cannot wait for crysis 2 I usually don't like fps, but I can play those games over and over

Never heard of witcher or starcraft but after looking on here starcraft looks quite good :)

edt.

ive been looking at crysis 2 and no longer feel the anticipation i felt a few minutes before lol

Crysis 2 is a console game and the graphics are nothing like Crysis, the original Crysis was a massive outdoor enviroment, it was released in 2007 and its still the best looking game ever made IMO

Crysis 2 is close quarters enviroment ask yourself why. Plus the fact that no PC footage has been shown, again ask yourself why.

Its amazing to me how the two top voted games are PC exclusives, posted there for all to see and you still get these people going on about PC gaming being dead when its totally the opposite situation, if its dead why am I struggling to find the time and money to buy and play all the games that I havent played yet

Nothing to do with nostalgia here pal, just decent gameplay and not treating the player like an idiot. I do play them but I'm also entitled to ask for a decent game if I'm going to fork out £30 of my hard-earned...

If the graphics are functional I don't really care whether its 2D or isometric or 3D.

You should be glad that you won't ever have to buy new hardware and therefore have money to fund much needed therapy.

I see, you intend to lower the tone of the discussion here. Congratulations.

Even though I dislike Gamespot they've got a poll of the people's most anticipated games. Great to see PC exclusive games topping the list.

There's no Diablo III, so the list doesn't count! Unless we're only looking at game this year I suppose. Can't see some of the games in that list coming out this year though.
People are still hoping for big things from the PC version of Crysis 2. I hope it works out that way.
If it's anything like Crysis & the expansion then I'll be very happy.
so mac isnt a personal computer now? apple's brainwashing machine is working well i see.
 It's just an easy way to differentiate between the two. Macs don't count as computers anyway.

It does look brilliant. I really need to play The Witcher Enhanced first! Looks like I've been missing out considering how much I enjoy RPGs like that.

I am playing it at the moment, cost me £12.99 on steam and it's been brilliant so far.

People have moaned about the combat system but to be honest once you understand and get used to it you can pull off some pretty mean combos/finishing moves. The story, music, characters and scenery is what makes the game really atmospheric yet rewarding to play.

You should give it a shot if you like rpgs....bare in mind it will take a few hours for you to understand it properly so give it a chance if you do play it.(i still dont know some stuff and been playing 12 hours so far.)
