PC gaming rawr!

That's my opinion as well. It's easy for PC gamers to vote but not so easy for the consolers. Although, doesn't the PS3 have a web browser and it only has three games, all at the bottom as well.

i doubt many people browse the web on a console and i doubt they bother with gaming sites like that one when there are more console orientated ones

Nice to see Zelda right up there. Have to admit that and the Witcher are the only games Im really looking forward to right now.
I'm looking forward to Fable and Starcraft as well because Fable 2 and Starcraft were a lot of fun, but to a much lesser degree than those other two...best way to try and explain would I wouldn't be as gutted if Fable/Starcraft were cancelled as I would the Zelda series or Witcher, they just dont register anywhere near as high on the anticipation scale.

Almost suprised Diablo III didn't make it onto the list actually, guess it's still a little far away.

I've never heard of The Witcher? Is it a recent game? I feel like I'm missing something.

The result will have been fudged some way. Whilst the 2nd game wont surprise, Witcher isnt really that high profile, at least in this country - or the US from what I was aware.

Either someone fixed the result, a major Whitcher forum managed to garner 5 figures worth of people to go vote, or its a lot more popular in the European countries than I had realised.

eh witcher was widely reguarded as an excelent rpg with uber after suport from the developers

1.5 mill isnt enough to explain 1st place in this pole. Its still small fry compared to halo, call of duty, star wars and even things like gears of war.

in sales maybe but so is its target audience most people whove played all of the games youve mentioned would probably rate thw witcher higher

Fact of the matter is the top two most nominated games are PC titles, PC gaming is very very far from being anywhere near dead like the scaremongerers will want you to believe

i'd say it's allready dead at least for the last 2 years if not more - go back a decade; it's just poor compared to what it used to be. as it stands most "popular" games on PC are actually console ports. (except MMO's but wait till those hit consoles, when publisher and platform makers can agree how to split the pie ;))

There are so many indie developers making good quality games though, granted with some technical issues. The modding community helps with those issues. So many games on the PC it's scary.

Oh and Sci-fi space sims are mainly PC exclusive so not just MMOs, Stalker also was PC exclusive as far as I'm aware. :)

so what sci-fi space sims can you name from the last 2 years?
which indie games are you refering to?

wheres all the stratergy games and proper pc rpgs.

pc gaming 10 years ago you had 10 decent or better games a month now where lucky to have 10 decent games in 2 years

Because it has become a monopoly plus it's much harder to develop now, not just small teams. That's why you're seeing less and less monthly. Games are vastly complex to 10 years ago.

I need to find that list someone posted, brb. :p

Gotta say drawing conclusions by reading numbers is ridiculous. Aside from whatever else has been mentioned, you'll notice several of the top Xbox games are basically the same thing, Halo, Gears of War and Call of Duty. Was that a single game everyone would just pick that and it'd be way in the lead.

Games are vastly complex to 10 years ago.

they are? RTS dumbed down (base building? oh what no gamers dont want it) , football manager games more often than not less complicated than they were back in the amiga days because easier games apeal to a larger audience.

deus ex is still one of the most complex first person shooter games released and its ancient now.

if anything most genres have gotten a lot more simple but thats probably because most games are console ports and casual gamers want simple , look at multiplayer fps bf1942 /tribes are still more complicated that the majority of titles since

I played coh and it was fun and I really thought i'd found something but it felt a little too elitest. I'd played a lot of single player vs ai and won and was trying to train a friend and as a result I had 70-5 score which was almost entirely against bots or a bad oponent and no one would play me. I thought it outragous that ai battles even counted towards my total. As a result I had to smurf and even then it was hard to get games. The game was also too focused on team play, which I found the majority of players are no good at and only good at at high end clan level, which seemed a way off.
Because the players in basic match are pretty bad at the game and don't play 1v1 automatch ranked or 2v2 ranked and just stuck to basic match, which is full of bad players that cant hack it in automatch.
So no wonder the experience was bad ? just play 1v1 then there's nobody to blame but yourself.

Sci-fi space sims: X3 Terran Conflict 2009

Steep learning curve and micromanagement heavy. Enormous universe to explore, build and fight.

Strategy games: Age of Empires III: Asian Dynasties 2008

3 asian civs, 3 indian civs, 8 european civs and ranked online multiplayer
supremacy-mode for quick battles
treaty-mode for 40 minutes base-building before fight, I was ranked no.1 for a while

RPG: Outcast 1999
3D Voxel engine way ahead of it's time. Orchestral soundtrack and impressive intro movie. Best RPG of all time.

No, in those days you'd be lucky to get half that...notable games anyway. More than today yes, but look at the bigger picture and see the immense amount of work & resources that go into just an average console game today, never mind PC games.

I meant to develop, sorry for not being clearer.

Yeah the mechanics have been dumbed down but I mean to develop, program, etc. etc. etc.
