Dammit... I have a Desire for a new phone...

Really not interested in the fake iPhone (Galaxy S) so I can't be bothered to wait for that. :)

Tried both once so far but I may have another go with them later today if I can be bothered to go all the way down to the town centre to try them (and put up with pushy sales folk... Just give me the phone to try and leave me alone, you obviously aren't going to be able to match the 18 month deals (apparently) and I really don't ******* want a 24 month contract, no it is more expensive and more of a rip off whatever you say...)

The Galaxy S is in the shops next Tuesday so there is hardly a wait :) Trying it out is in your best interests otherwise you might have regrets when you try and view the screen on your shiny new desire in the sun!

Indeed, it's pretty insulting calling it a fake iPhone, it's far better. ;)

Didn't notice this review was out, give it a read. I'm going to Vodafone to play with one when it's out, sounds quite something.

I don't normally call phones fake iPhones, however the Galaxy and Galaxy S are obviously styled around the 3g/gs. Same shape, similar UI. Come on Samsung be a bit original!

I agree, but it may well end up battering the Desire if you can root it and shove Froyo stock on there, or better yet Sense UI (doubtful for Sense though)

Well I just ordered a Desire through buymobilephones.net...

The X10 just seems to have too many battery issues at the moment, alongside the rooting issue. Maybe it'll be sorted in the 14 days I have to send the Desire back but otherwise I have a Desire for keeps.

They are out of stock at the moment but apparently getting more in tomorrow so fingers crossed I get it on Wednesday!

£30 18 month contract

600 mins
500 texts
unlimited internet (500mb or 3GB?)
4 months cashbakc
£25 quidco

Which works out cheaper overall than the £25 tariff I was going to go on...

Once I get £130 for my HD it'll work out cheaper than staying sim free with my HD. Still seems strange that it's actually cheaper to get a new contract and phone than stay on sim only. :p

I think all the stock (t-mobile?) arriving tommorrow is already gone. They won't confirm I'll get mine, and I ordered a week ago.

Thought that may be the case. :(

They have by far the best deal however so I'll have to wait. The other option is to get the X10... :p

Get the X10 :p

The X10 update has been released according to SE UK Twitter, I am trying to get some more information at the moment :D

The unlimited internet from buymobilephones is 1gb FUP by the way, but lots of people have had success ringing t-mobile up and getting web 'n walk plus (3gb) added for free, which frees up the flexible booster.

Get a Galaxy S if you dont want to wait.

You can very easily argue the Galaxy S is better than the Desire. In nearly every way it is (narrowly), you cant do that for the X10, its a confirmed inferior phone on the whole, regardless of what people might say :)

By the X10 update I assume you mean the battery? Not anything significant with regard to its software :(

It is superior, they must just have decided they preferred it on size I suppose.

The X10 is badly lacking though, I think honestly you would be disappointed if you got one, there's virtually no developer support or anything like the Desire has (in comparison anyway)

lacking what ? what does your desire do that the x10s version of 1.6 doesnt ?

i was torn between the 2 in april but got my x10 for £100 cheaper than what i could have gotten a desire for and isnt fugly

you mention the software again and again but there really isnt anything wrong with it. plenty of comparison vids show it is just as quick as HTC's 2.1 offerings too

Interesting. sounds a bit odd though. How do you end up with more stuff for free on the same contract?

That would be useful (not the extra data) but the freed up booster as I could stick it on to the US roaming thing.

That's like going from Cinderella (the X10) to the ugly sister (Desire)s uglier sister. (Galaxy S). :(

The Galaxy S really sin't my cup of tea tbh and the extra power isn't enough to tempt me.

The problem with the X10 is that it doesn't have sense essentially. It's plain Android (boring) with the timescape (the only useful bit of software). I'm still very tempted by the X10 but it needs to be rooted. The other thing is (reading the X10 thread) the battery life seems to be terrible. I need 2 days of little usage really, dying after a few hours is terrible.

I may see what happens tomorrow with my order, if it's not sent out I'll probably go out and look at the X10 again and mybe change my order.

EDIT: I didn't mean timescape! Meant mediascape. Timescape is pointless for me. :p

I wouldnt get the x10, the gf had one for about a month... was returned once and new one is sitting on ebay, she seen the light and finally got a Desire, loves it!

Couldnt get contact pictures or anything on the x10, felt very basic, media/time thingy was pretty poor functioning, battery needed charged towards the end of the day, kept crashing, freezing, losing track of the time (?)... did have a big screen tho :) But that was about it lol

I have said several times before, its not just my opinion it is the opinion of the vast majority of tech websites and phone enthusiasts.

If you prefer it to the Desire, so be it. Its entirely up to you and you can recommend it all you like, but as I've said, I think it isn't up to standard in more than one department :)

If I actually thought it was better, I'd have one.

We clearly wont agree so I dont think there's much point discussing it further, as long as you are happy with yours, thats great!

Look on the bright side, at least you dont have an iPhone and can form a decent argument by yourself and not based on what Steve Jobs tells his minions ;)

Oh and Amp34, you really should consider the Galaxy S, at least go and try one. If you hate it, fair enough. It just shouldn't be overlooked at the moment.

Problem is I can't stand the UI or the styling of the hardware. As they are the most important parts of a phone (essentially the main difference between it and the X10/Desire) I can't see the point. However if it is on display tomorrow (is it out then?) I will have a look.

user error doesnt mean its rubbish. mediascape is arguably better than the stock android offering and if you dont like it then theres plenty of alternatives on the market. crashing, freezing and losing track of time sounds like someones been using a task killer

dont know where people are getting 'just a few hours use' for the battery either. i get more than a day and always have done after the first week of ownership.

Yes it is out, certainly worth a look :)

Well the battery life on the desire isn't that much better. However, at a push I have managed 3 / 4 days from my X10 that was with completely no data use though and not much else lol.
