New Honda S2000 Plans Revealed...

why is this a bad thing ?

stop thinking of a hybrid as being a Toyota Prius

Think of the hybrid being more like the Porsche 918 - conventional petrol engine, but with an electric engine for EVEN MORE power on full acceleration, and the ability to run on battery power when sat in traffic light queues etc..

I always think of a hybrid as a prius, but there is no way Honda would let the S2000 be like that! Hopefully it will be how MrLOL mentioned.

Looking forward to knowing more about this :D

Would they be able to mix a hybrid with a vtec y0 engine?

I drove a CRZ yesterday. The lump of torque at the low end with a relatively free spinning NA engine for the top end was pretty good tbh. Sounded nice enough aswell. I was impressed enough.

S2000 in a similar vain would step the game right up.

Its just one of the ways of downsizing an engine, except you dont actually need to use more fuel at the point of requesting more power.

Marketing?

You mean EU CO2 limits, we all know people generally dont want hybrids and/or want to pay the price premium so it has nothing to do with marketing.

It looks alright from that picture, although I can't help but see a little Peugeot in the front.

I was kind of hoping they would add a couple of cylinders and ....well basically I was hoping they'd stick an NSX engine in it :D ...of course I did not expect it though.

I think if Toyota did they would, Prius is now a brand name that its going on all their hybrids.

Fortunatley the S2000 was a Honda. ;)

The new NSX is ready and waiting ....

For a market of people that will actually buy it in enough numbers to make it worth their while.

dont think the insight is any more exciting to the drive than the prius is it ?

Both completely different cars to the CR-Z and what the new S2000 will become however.

Hybrid is fine and all, but what kind of weight will be added on?

Also I quite like the autocar mockup, half CR-Z and half current s2k :)

Massively looking forward to the new S2000 and Toyota's FT86.

Fortunatley I have driven neither.

The Insight is based on the Jazz front end and from what Ive seen in press reports in the press it is a more involving drive than certainly the Gen2 Prius, along with being a bit more of a regular car for Joe Public. Pretty much anything nowadays is hampered by electric steering assistance though.

The Insight has a normal engine atleast, the Prius has its Atkinson cycles engine which takes a lot away from a crisp throttle etc and low speed grunt.... exactly why they stuffed an electric motor in the car in the first place = it was crap to drive.

CRZ afterall is Insight front end, they have changed the arms for ally lighter versions and then its the typical, dampers, springs, geo and tyres.

17 kg for the Honda 10kW Motor and housing and the magnet wheels forms the flywheel
5kg for the power cables.
17kg for the 100V (84 D cylindrical cell battery pack) in the CRZ and Insight.

You can pretty much scale those for more power.

Power electronics - not sure but pretty significant.

How much is a turbo or more engine capacity? Where is the ONLY place you can put those parts?

"Artists rendering" is a bit chunky isn't it?

Looks like a CRZ with the top chopped off. Or a squinty 370z. Hopefully it doesn't look like that. Looks like it'd weigh too much. :p

Cool, performance hybrids are the way forward i'm looking forward to seeing more being announced but the FT86 is also very interesting I think it looks amazing in pics that have been released so far
