The Budget

I'm not bothered by the fact that VAT went up, it's that the Lib Dem's were completely against it and now all of a sudden Clegg has signed up for it.

Lying BS politicians.
Within weeks they said given the situation, it was not a time for delays. So it's moot.

She's attacking the liberals haha
There is a quote about how a dying animal backed into a corner will attack everything that approaches it.

Ooooh shut up Ms Harman, as much I'm pro Labour I can't stand the woman.

Attacking the VAT rise, I'm sure Labour would've increased it, had they had a chance...

"Whatever the Lib Dems vote for, we'll vote against it".

Yes, what a fantastic approach to take. I can't believe what a bleeding idiot that woman (ergo the Labour Party) is.

What about shampoo? That's more widespread than petrol use, and thats the very first thing I thought of!

Don't forget that a lot of stuff will still stay the same price - eg. stuff which is currently £1.99 or £9.99 etc. will remain the same round figure and the retailer itself will just take a reduced profit on the chin.

Did I? How interesting, go along and prove it. Let's hope your memory is better than your maths and economics knowledge.

No, my main interest was "Not another Labour term", so it was all win for me.

The joke is your mental ability if you think a 2.5% increase in VAT is the same as a 2.5% pay cut. But amusing I saw that you declined to actually address your abject failure to understand finances and try and deflect your error.

Check thread 'Who will you vote for this general election' for proof.

For me, with no mortgage and my income and expenditure, less than 2% of funds are spent on 'essentials' as defined by the government.

Nah, it is purely a political thing. She has more hope of winning over disgruntled Lib Dem voters than disgruntled Conservative voters. Expect a lot more of Labour's ire directed at the Lib Dems over the next few years.

Budget wasn't too bad but I would be pretty annoyed if I had voted lib dems, seems like they are just rolling over and taking whatever the tories throw at them

I have no idea how greasy your hair is but I certainly don't spend anywhere near as much money on shampoo as I do on petrol...

Think slowly, think again, type, read, re-read, post.

He said 'the most widespread thing it will affect is petrol'.

I said 'er .. shampoo is more widespread than petrol purchases'.

Capiche?

Oh well, the VAT increase is only an additional 2.1% on the total cost, I'm sure most supermarkets and larger stores will absorb this.

I dont think I came out as bad as expected....

I am an employed single parent of 3, dont get housing benefit but do get child benefit and tax credits so one frozen and 1 increased

extra tax allowance next year

apart from the vat increase on some products (which lets face it go up anyway one way or another) not too shabby at all and much less than I feared

as for dla/incapacity etc those that truly deserve it will have no problems and those that are lieing thru their arse to get it will have to look for work!!!!! sounds fair to me

still not a conservative fan myself but aslong as I am alright jack I dont really care :)

Seems a reasonable budget to me. Industry gets the tax breaks it deserves. Long term benefit claimants who haven't been medically assessed for years will be looked at. Capital Gains tax goes up for the highest earners. Pay Freeze for all Public sector workers for 2 years (and before you start I'm a Public sector worker). Government Departments get budgets reduced (and we all know that Billions are wasted every year). Cigarettes, Beer and Fuel aren't touched (a sop to the masses).

Quite a clever budget considering the mess the Countries fiances are in.

I'm not sure that is fair TBH. It is give and take - the Tories have adopted some Lib Dem policies like raising tax allowances. Perhaps the coalition has contributed towards this budget seeming so balanced.

Why should I? You are the one throwing around accussations. Back it up or shut your faux-socialist whining.

For me, with no mortgage and my income and expenditure, less than 2% of funds are spent on 'essentials' as defined by the government.

I know this may be hard for you to grasp (considering your poor economic and maths skills), but your alleged situation is hardly typical of most people in the country.

It's a coalition, both parties have conceded certain things in order to form a working government that can ensure the countries prosperity and allow us to regain our once great economy. It's all about give and take, surely you have to appreciate this?

I completely understand that VAT had to go up and it was inevitable however a massive chunk of Clegg's campaign was attacking the tories on their plans for the VAT so he has done a complete U-Turn and basically lied to everybody who voted for him.

Within weeks they said given the situation, it was not a time for delays. So it's moot.

Sorry?
