FAO people who have emmigrated

Because patriotism will feed you?

Much the same as anyone who hasn't emigrated... it's not like anyone of our generation can rely on a state pension so i plan to save and invest until retirement, where I can release assets to open up cashflow.

I wouldn't mind going over and living in Holland. Relaxed people who don't take life too seriously. Plus, their football team can actually score a goal at international level.

It's a tempting decision :)

Personally I have money saved up already along with two private pensions I pay into. I also don't have any mortgage debt and is partner in three properties (two paid in full) with my brother which all should be enough to cover my retirement.

Its were I plan to move when I have the money, learning Dutch and German in the meantime :)

I find people that live abroad or at least spend some time living abroad, FAR more dynamic and interesting than people that rarely wanders out of the 2 mile radius they were born and spent their lives in. Yes, broad generalisation, but accurate in the majority of cases.

Taking all the money out of the country to give to foreign businesses eh? How very patriotic ..

;)

But I'm spreading the British seed 1/2 the way around the world, I think that is patriotic :)

OT: I'll save, I guess, I haven't really put much thought into it, as I've been more preoccupied with immigration/emigration. :p

You can still pay into your NI fund in the UK even if you don't live there, then claim it when you are of legal age :)

The winking smiley doesn't stop this from being an asinine comment.

Most of the ex-pats I know have kept a public/private pension scheme in the UK, started a public/private scheme here, as well as the normal investments, savings etc. It's no different.

to any country. what do you plan to do when you retire in terms of money?

i'm paying 13% of my salary (forced) into a public pension fund which I can only dream will pay out... depending on the whims of the MEPs in charge at the time might as well put 350 euro on the lottery each week works out the same cept I don't have a choice. :(

The private pension schemes over here as in the UK are based on income tax deductions but since I don't pay national income tax they are more or less useless for me.... :(

I emmigrated from Harlow Essex to Wales with my parents when I was young, best move ever :)

As much as I miss some family and friends etc, I dont miss the place
