Problem with them calling the police is that they don't actually need to - they can eject you for any reason whatsoever (which is good when a restaurant genuinely needs to). But of course they wouldn't do that as then they wouldn't get any money.
reminds me of a time in Plymouth when my family was thrown out, and mum pushed in the back, by the **** of an owner but that's a story on its own. The police turned up and basically told everyone to go home as it's their word versus ours etc. We didn't pay much and the restaurant has since closed. Not entirely sure why
