I'm totally out of the loop - I've had a PAYG first generation 3G phone for over 4 years [motorola e770v].

I've just got a new job which will entail more telephonic tomfoolery so I want a nice new phone on contract.

I like the look of the Desire etc, but I see the blackberry curve [free] for £15 a month on Virgin. What do you reckon?

Also, I see some contracts stipulate line rental too. Whats all that about? Is it included in the overall cost?

Thanks!

;)

An idea of how many minutes/texts you want would be handy?

18/24 month contract?

What do you want from a phone? Blackberry 8520 and a Desire are very different phones!

Line rental is what you pay per month, your free minutes/texts/internet are included in this.

OK thought I'd settled for the Desire from buymobilephones.net - £25 per month, 300 txts and mins, 18 months, unlimited data on tmobile. Sadly, they have no stock and don't look like getting any soon.....

So, I'm thinking HTC Wildfire. A step down from Desire but a big step up from what I'm used too. About £15 on the same tariff as above - seems a good deal. Is the Wildfire fast enough to play the odd game of robo defence? ;)

Are their any better deals on android phones?

Thanks.

Samsung Galaxy S
Free on 24 Month contract @ 30PM

24 month on Vodafone

This was the "best" option" for me - I dont use a lot of voice and wanted a sick as phone

A Desire or Galaxy S is what you should be looking at.

The HTC Wildfire is essentially a 'handbag' phone, its good but you dont want one of those, its nothing compared to the above.

Nice. But my limited research on this forum and others has revealed a lot of gibbering amongst Samsung owners regarding pitiful support etc. Also, haven't vodafone just altered their fair usage policy regarding web use to the extent of not allowing you to watch online vids at youtube, bbc etc?

I can get the desire tomorrow on tmobile for £25 per month, 300 txts and mins, unlimited data, over 24 months instead of 18. Seems the best deal atm.

OK, got my Desire coming on Monday. A big step up from my trusty 4 year old Motorola E770v!

Best deal I could find in the end was Orange Panther 400 mins/unlimited text and data over 24 months @ £30, with redemption and £50 cashback via Quidco meaning it'll equate to £18 per month.

Also, I just ordered a Case-mate "barely there" cover which should help protect against droppages. Frankly, I think there's a real danger of looking a bender when digging out a pouch or one of those leather affairs. Horses for courses I guess....
