In todays budget the government have stated all public servants earning over 21k will have a pay freeze for two years. As a public worker I take it this means a freeze on our yearly increase in living but not our career grade which the likes of I are on?

It's effectively an 8-10% pay cut, as thats what the real world cost of living is likely to increase by between now and the end of the pay freeze.

Quite what the £250 pay rise for people on under 21k I've no idea. What ever happened to earnings being about ability rather than how needy you've been considered to be

pay freezes are generally related to the annual inflationary rise (April) but not affecting incremental rises as they are seperate and already written into your contract

still study it, you will still earn a cracking wage either way and by the time you qualify hopefully most of the **** will already have hit the fan and dieing down a bit :)

I'm still wondering how this is going to affect organisations where Unions have an agreed yearly payrise (such as mine).

oh yeah deffo, I've never doubted that I didn't want to do it.

As for the cracking wage, imo the wage is aboslutely awful, until you become a consultant. I'm not going in for the money, that's for sure :p

This is pretty disappointing my GF just qualified as a nurse and is having problems finding a job due to these freezes! Do you know if there are actual job cuts as well or any major restructuring?

Cuts cuts and more cuts baby.

Tory's eat small children and nurses for a laugh.
