Uninteruptable Power Supply

Hi, since I moved into my current house i've been having problems with voltage brownouts caused (I think) by the electric fences on a farm with which my house shares power. It was suggested to me that I buy an uninteruptable power supply, which I did. Problem is, I was under the mistaken opinion that the battery in the ups charged while giving power output to the equipment. Turns out that it doesn't, the battery only kicks in when the power dies. I probably should have thought more into it before buying it, but I didn't. My question is, where to stand on the basis of a refund?, is it possible to get a refund just because I made the mistake of thinking that the device does something that it doesn't. (didn't buy it from overclockers so no conflict)

Also, do you guys have any other ideas as to how to solve my brownout problem?. It does not effect the working of my equipment but it does cause a worrying ticking noise every few seconds from the electronics, the tick is louder with higher wattage equipment.

thanks.

ordered it last week from an online store (****.ie), arrived today.

Not sure if its the electricity suppliers problem, if its being caused by the electric fences.

Just looking at thier terms and conditions, looks like I can return it for not reason. probably should have checked that before posting, sorry.......

still screwed on the brownouts tho

Ok, thanks for the help guys.

Do you know if these brownouts would be very dangerous to equipment, seen as it does not seem to affect the proformance?

But whats the issue, surely it does what you want, or does the power go down for a long time?

yea, it all works fine, i'm just worrying that it could become a bigger problem, maybe damaging the equipment slowly, the power never goes down, it just causes my electronics to tick.

My guess is that there is a power drain for a split second every 3-4 seconds, caused by the fences. The fences tick at the same rate. But keep in mind that i'm no electrician.

I don't understand? Surely if the power goes down and the UPS kicks in, your equipment isn't being shut off instantly, thus not damaging it? How would returning the UPS help stop your equipment being damaged?

It, won't help. I tought that the ups worked by constantly running the equipment from the battery, and recharging at the same time. I was wrong, so I have no use for it.

My power never cuts out, its just a bit dodgy.

it's for your benefit mate - don't want the wrist-slapping patrol to come around and live up to their name :D

tbh I just tought it was blanked because it was mistaken as a curse word. Didn't occur to me that a small irish company would be blocked as a competitor. thanks tho
