why are ppl calling this a slim, i mean its not much smaller. with the ps3 you can tell straight away that its slimmer, when i first saw the new xbox slim never popped inside my mind. are microsoft actually officially calling this a slim?

They reference to it as a 'sleek new design'

Sony don't even officially call theirs the slim. Its the media and consumers that call it the slim.

No - the press release mentions the word Sleek though.

Oops dane got there first.

Lots of videos on youtube i seen and the noise difference wasn't that different form the normal 360, certainly when the dvd drive gets going its just as noisy.

Trust me, that was what i was afraid of when i was waiting for it to arrive... I am very fussy when it comes to background noise.

Maybe tonight, I'll use my SPL Meter to give you a db rating, but trust me, the thing is almost silent.. About as much noise as what a Panasonic Plasma gives out... I was able to finally play my xbox at night time with the sound very very low and actually enjoy it..

Can't say they are all the same? But mine is definately as quiet as a mouse.

Man I'm in two minds about this... just get a dirt cheap Arcade to enjoy the exclusives on, or wait until the new $199/£150 model is released in autumn. I don't want to drop more than that on a 360, as I really won't use it as much my PS3's (the superior console :p)

What do you guys reckon?

Su

I reckon wait.. Hardware wise the old one is a piece of junk, the new one is a million times better !

The twist is that I'll be starting a new job in September, so probably won't have much time to play :( I'll see what the deals are like on the old style consoles in the coming weeks I guess... imo the 360 S is fugly as a hell, but if it's quiet and reliable that doesn't really matter!

Cheers,

Su

wow they look nice, how much you reckon one could trade in 60Gb console, no problems, well looked after, no RROD or crashes? cause using my laptop for xbox live is getting old now and i can't be bothered with messing about with routers or paying for the adaptor. i would gladly be willing to purchase one to get rid of the horrible noise/vibration of my current console! :)

around 70-80£ condition doesn't matter as long as its working.

I think I'm still sticking to my original of plan of waiting until Christmas.

It looks nice, and it sounds good on paper... But the lack of a true intake-exhaust cooling system doesn't bode well with me. I'd like to see how other people get on with them before I lay down my dosh.

But then, I might think differently if I didn't have a reliable Elite.

Ummm really not to sure what to do, my main issue with my Elite is the noise, and even then it's not really the Elite itself it's actual the PSU that's creating the most noise on my 360 setup, a really annoying whining noise.

To try and save money I've purchased old 20pin PC atx PSU and I'm going to use this adapter,

If that doesn't work I'll trade in my Elite for a 'stumpy' 360 :p

I've never heard noise from any of my 360 PSU's...But I've always had mine on the floor mixed in with all the many wires running between all my gear.
The fans in mine are most annoying, clearly audible from the next room over several computers!
