Going to splash out on a new car this Friday, but hadn't actually thought of how to pay for it. Can I just give them my debit card? Do I need to let the bank know first?

Thank you for any help :)

One of the better ways to do it for sure... Credit cards have limits, cash is messy, Debit card is instant(ish) you just need the cleared funds in the account.

May need to do it in multiple transactions, and the bank will probably block/require a phonecall from the dealer when carrying out the transaction, but not much more i dont think...

It'll probably get an authorisation request as your bank will think your card has been stolen - suddenly having thousands spent in one place rings alarm bells. You'll need to ring them up, answer a few security questions and then they give the vendor a code which authorizes the transaction on the spot.

Worked for me when I spent £8k~ with a HSBC debit card.

Id probably give the bank a call before hand just to let them know, May make things go a little smoother at deal time. As said they are likely to block the transaction and require a phone call if you don't normally make transactions this size (I'm guessing not)

What you getting? :)

A long time ago i was trying to buy a tv and my debit card wouldn't let me spend more than £500 at a time, i just phoned the shop back the next day and paid the rest. (TV was getting delivered a week later)

But more recently i've bought camera and computer stuff well over the £1000 mark and its gone straight through.

It only ever happened the once so i never bothered to look into the why.

I did phone my bank a few days before and even popped in about 3 hours before I bought my car - both times they said they put a note on the system (when I was in the bank I saw this happen) however the automatic system still blocked my purchase and I have to call up the HSBC and get the authorisation.

Yes. It's how I paid for the non-conformist GT-R. No need to talk to the bank.

You should be ok tbh, Just take it easy :).

Audis tend to understeer which is normally easily dealt with. Enjoy
