Hey guys, I haven't purchased anything on the android market yet as I'm concerned about the currencies.

When I buy things from abroad in dollars or whatever my bank always charges me a £1.50 service charge, now that ain't too bad if I'm buying something big.
Thing is though I don't wanna be charged a £1.50 extra every time I buy an app from the market place.

Anyone bought any thing from the Android Market yet?

(p.s I'm w/ Halifax if that helps)

I use a barclaycard, and there's only a percentage fee which isn't too bad. No fixed charge.

Sorry if this is off topic.. but its kinda related to purchases made in the market. If I purchase an app, then had to reformat my phone (or upgrade firmware) will I be able to re download the purchased app?

£1 fixed charge with Lloyds, Halifax might be different.

Yes you can re-download apps. It's linked to your Google account.

Isn't the charge taken from your Google checkout account, thus would be charged in GBP? I haven't noticed any extra fees being taken...

I'm with Lloyds and it charged me the £1 fee when I bought a $1.99 app from the market. I think it's silly that google don't do a conversion at checkout to stop this happening.

They need to sort out the android market. Having loads of different currencies for everything and only accepting a few cards(I only have a maestro and as a result can't buy anything from the market:mad:) This is one area where the iPhone has a big advantage over android phones.

Well paypal take a commission for foreign currency transactions (built into their exchange rates).
It's only a small amount and based on percentage, whilst if I buy something for $0.99 on the market I end up paying a pound or so for the change, most apps are quite cheap on the market so it's adding a rather big overhead for me.

I used google checkout - it still charges your bank for exchanging the monies

ah what really? thats stupid

so what's the actual point of google checkout? this is lame

Google need to address this currency issue.

Our apps are already much more expensive than the apple app store as it is.
