whats the best router available?

The solution I posted above of a Draytek 100 or now 110 about £45 and a Dlink Dir655 At £45-£50 is a very good solution offering a lot of features and is easy to setup. I have used it for over 3 years and get very good speed and wireless range.

Ah, the invariable answer to the question of what is the best router... whatever suits your requirements and runs reliably.

The answer will differ from person to person, manufacturer to manufacturer, router to router.

I've got a Netgear DG84N, been very reliable and very stable, I believe there was also a gigabit variant?

Not sure if it's still avilable or not though.

I've always been a fan of Netgear over Linksys, Dlink and Belkin. I've used them all and found the Netgear more intuitive and pretty much rock solid. As others have mentioned though, thats a personal thing and probably has a lot to do with me knowing the netgear configuration setup more thyan the others.

I was looking at the draytek 2820vn, lots of amazing reviews and it has vpn so I can access my server from my phone ;)

Downside is that it costs circa 200 squids..

Hi all if you're not using the wi'fi try turning it off as that's what makes the heat as transmitting.
Draytek was making the BT routers.
I'm on o2 and tech support is good uk based aswell.gave me a Thompson router!!! But will help me if i want to use my own as above said plus will do port forwarding for you for gaming etc if you want. Plus if you're gaming why bother with a wifi router just go for a good ethernet one less packets/data lost and more stable.you could even if you need a wi.fi for rest of house do a split system with two routers
Netgear gets a big plus thumbs up from the guy that does all the repair/installs at pc faire by me says that plus one other that i can't remember

My isp is offering free Thomsons too, may just use that until I actually decide... will also give me something to benchmark any new router against.

although draytek seem to be winning the battle for my mind so far.
