After about a 2 month delay I finally got my cheque in the post for travel insurance claim for when I got stuck in Cyprus.

Today I received slightly more than half an envelope with a fair chunk of the top right corner missing, as well as half of my cheque which was inside. Obviously I can't lodge this into the bank. It is a disaster trying to get hold of the people at direct travel as they are so busy.

Is it worth mentioning this to the post office folks? Not sure whether it was intentionally tampered with to look for money inside but it sure is annoying not having a full cheque to lodge. The missing part of the cheque contains the number etc so I have no idea what details to give the insurers to issue a replacement!

Whoever wrote the cheque should have the number.

Don't see why you can't fire the cheque through anyway/

give it a try at the bank, you never know and It'l save the hassle of getting another sent

I would try putting it in if i were you it could save you a lot of hassle. I imagine you will have to send the cheque back to the company so that they confirm you don't still have it.

Sounds like it is worth a try lodging it anyway - the whole right side is ripped so all that it contains is my name, a date, and the value!

The insurance company should know the number of the cheque anyway.

Haha, I guess I have the US dictionary installed in firefox, it want's me to type "check" lazy Americans.

Call the issuer, they'll cancel the cheque and send you a new one. Alternatively, take it to the bank and they'll tell you to go away. Third option is to post on the internet where no one can give you a definitive answer.

Whoever issued the cheque originally would be able to issue you a new one. Give them a call.
