Hey, been reading these boards for a few months now, on my quest for the perfect parts list xD

It will mainly be used for college, Photoshop, Fireworks, dreamweaver, flash and after effects.

Secondly I would like to lay occasional cod4 pc maybe even mw2, eventually and occasionaly a few games that be cheaper on steam, will be playing at 1920x1080 (after a long search I found a monitor/Tv that will do everything I want, xbox, ps3 and pc/ current lappy)

I have a ps3 so don't need a blu ray drive.

Total budget will be around £650 might be able to stretch to £750 possibly, if integrated graphics is there so I can use it and save for the better graphics option.

I love the look and reviews of the antec 300 so if possible could you base it round that? Wouldn't say no to another type of case.

Also this is to last me a good few years not exactly earning mega money so upgradeability would be a huge plus.

Thanks
Ross

I'm just waiting for Big Wayne to show you the way...
One thing to bear in mind is that an HD 4870 may suit you rather than an HD 5*** when it comes to price per pound. It's a big money saver without being a major deal breaker unless you are on a gaming mission.

i need a copy of windows included in that price. i was thinking as well about the 58xx series card, since i only intend to do very occasional gaming, phone isnt wanting to bracket lol have ps3 and xbox for that end of bracket, and college work and the usual internet parousal. and no periphals in that price, since ill pick them up when i get my monitor to use with laptop, due to spreading spending so im not skint all the time lol

its just that playing games at 1920X1080 requires some graphical grunt
its only occasionaly, so i dont mind turning down aa, and no af, currently im playing on an ati 3200 and 1024x768 with everything off and a few console comands known to improve fps lol on a laptop screen thats 1366x768 just to get a realitively consistent frame rate without 20fps drops randomly lol just want to play native res, dont mind turning a few things down.

that looks very promising, although there are a few other components that are slightly better on a competitor like a 700w arctic power with enough amperes over the dual 12v rails for around the same priceand what about a 1tb f3? its only 15 pound more, and has gotten really good scores in benchmarks from what ive seen?, also im guessing that dosnt add in fans and cpu coolers? of to bed now, ill check back in the am thanks so far guys

Couple of other bits to think about:

Pushing your budget a bit but Lian Li cases are quite nice and the modular PSU is a nice addition. You wont need any extra fans but if the stock fan on the Phenom is too noisy for your liking you can change that later...

I'm afraid that's because Arctic Power are ****.

Corsair, Antec, OCZ, Seasonic, Tagan, PC Power and Cooling <- all decent power supply makes, so stick with them. Don't try and skimp on a PSU.

that looks pretty good, does that board have integrated graphics? just since its in total a bit more than intended and i can save my pennys for the 5770.

Try this:

The Asus 5770 is regarded as the best to get (quiet, 3 year warranty) generally. The OCZ 500W PSU is an improvement over the earlier builds, and you've got a bit of room to swing with in regards to the case (you could save some cash here if desired).

Also, the board has integrated graphics, so you could buy the 5770 later.

My Uncle actually recommended it, He has been working with COmputers for years, so i figured it would have been ok?

no, just no, dont trust your £650-£700 pc with the care of a rubbish psu.

Ok. Just since it was 2nd Most popular on ****** as well, i figured that must have stood for something as well.

Ill have a look into some of the Brands you suggested (Y)

To add to Marvins list of quality psus,

Corsair
Enermax
Antec
OCZ
Seasonic
BeQuiet
XFX
Coolermaster (not the GX range)
Zalman

Hey Ross,

Am I reading it right that you would prefere a board with IGP so that you can spend less right away and get the build going with less funds . . then when it's all built and tweaked etc you would have had enough time to get the rest of the dough together for a nice GPU?

If so then what is your budget for the initial spend please? . . £650 or?

Popular doesn't mean good. Also remember that many who leave user reviews on ****** don't really know what they are talking about -> they are only there for a replacement PSU for their HP or whatever, and anything that turns the PC on automatically is the best product ever.

Yes if the board has Integrated Graphics, i can stretch to 700-750 since i will be able to get the rig up and running, in time to get A little college work done, so that by the time i get the Upgraded GPU i would be able to get into the nitty gritty stuff :D i was looking around, and was thinking from a financial standpoint, about an ATI 4670, It would do everything i need in Photoshop and After Effects, and would run COD4 on 1080 with a few settings off/ lowered? and would save the rents on electric bills :D So Initial Spend is around £650 Max, without Graphics card. Providing there is a graphics solution as i mentioned above lol
