I've just got a new sub and gone to connect it to me amp but the amp has a left and right phono out but the sub just has a single channel. If I merge the left and right though won't it make everything mono sound effectivley?

Only boom boom noises get sent anyway so makes no difference, your sure the amps sub pre-out is L+R? Thats unusual, occasionally get it the other way round but its normally a single RCA to RCA connection.

Either way, get the appropriate lead, put the crossover and volume all the way up and let the subs auto setup mic do its magic.

Firstly check the manual for your amp, they normally tell you which channel to use for a single sub. Failing that just use one of the channels. Do NOT try and connect both channels together as you may end up with a large repair bill.

Connect your sub to the red S.W connector within the AC3/5.1 box. It's a merged L&R output. The other 2 S.W are for if you have stereo subs.

You sure about that?

I think those sockets are an input, not an output. The features list from the OP's link says: 1 x 5.1/AC3-Eingang (6 x RCA), and I'm pretty sure Eingang is German for "Way in"

geowal19, go with previous suggestions of connecting to one of the two sub output sockets. Check your manual. It'll tell you which to use if using only a single sub.

Good point, it doesn't actually say input or output. Either way, it won't hurt to try it though!

Connections: 1 x RCA input, 1 x 5.1/AC3 input (6 x RCA), screw terminals for speakers, 1 x RCA output for active subwoofer, 1 x FM radio antenna, 1 x AM radio antenna

I'd connect your subwoofer to the socket labelled "S.W. 1" personally. If your sub has white and red RCA connectors then connect it to both accordingly. If it's a single RCA, i'd only stick it in RCA 1.
