Hey Ross,

can I get a bit of user feedback from you please? . . . I'm curious to know what you find appealing about the Intel® Core™ i3? . . . particularly since you stated "upgradeability would be a huge plus"?

Are you just more comfy with Intel® products and are not sure about AMD® or?

Thanks in advance for your insights! ;)
thought intel was supposed to be better for adobe applications? And current laptop is amd and not had any problems so far. Just always fancied an intel after my old desktop which is still working after about 7 years?

Are you meaning a a particular Intel processor or just anything made by Intel?

7 years? . . . heh I have a 7 year old socket 478 Pentium 4 here! ;)

I'm totally cool with any of the specs in this thread but I don't think you have considered the future? . . . because from what you have stated in this thread you want this system to really last? . . . . are you totally not interested in CrossFire? . . . or being able to plug in a HexCore processsor? . . . USB 3.0 or Sata III

If you intend to run this system for 3-5 years you need to think carefully about the features you may need in the future? . . . I'm not a big fan of the Term "Future-Proofing" but for the small price of £20 you could have everything you need Today and everything you may need for "Tomorrow"

It's a lot of money your spending and as nice as the Intel® Core™ i3 is I think you may regret it down the line . . . it's your money and your computer though so as long as your happy and have considered things then I guess my work here is done! :)

Hope you enjoyed the pictures and stuff!

This man speaketh the truth and i share this comment. "the term Future proof" does not exists in the PC industry - I've always bought for today and not for what "maybe" around the corner.

The Intel® Core™ i3 is a remarkable CPU. I've just build a system for a customer using one and it just great. However, the user has no interest in gaming this is the ideal customer base for this CPU. B.W. is right is saying you may be wise to spend that little bit more for something has a little more potential. Whether that's today or tomorrow.

edit - I built the same i3 system in post 27 except i choose the Corsair 400 and the excellent Coolermaster 335 :)

i also seen a few videos on youtube and it managed to seem multitasking perfectly, i usually always have safari, tweetdeck, outlook, steam, msn. and a mate of mine, always says dont mix ati and intel try and keep intel and nvidia or amd and ati?
i also seen that the i7 860 was on a socket 1156, so if i needed an upgrade i have that option and if the 1155 is going to replace it, it might make it cheaper for when i might need the upgrade. i dont plan on usb3.0 but rather esata since most 3.5 inch enclosure have them and usb 2.0 so i can get a 1tb samsung F3 spinpoint in an enclosure. and my 7 year old intel is a celeron xD been sitting in the garage for a few months now so i dunno if it might still work lol thanks for the help guys.

Firstly, that's not difficult for a half-decent modern processor to do (5 fairly light programs open - not exactly taxing for the system, CPU usage will still be lower than 10% at most).

Also, your mate clearly doesn't know what he's talking about. Simply look at peoples' signatures around this forum and you'll find that Intel and ATI are as fine a mix as Intel and nVidia, or AMD and ATI and AMD and nVidia. It's why the computing industry has standards - so everything is nice and compatible.

The only thing that is a bit of a challenge is using SLI on AMD, but it can be done.

TweetDeck has been Notorious for not being efficent, but i love it so lol

And from youtube videos, the i3 looked nippier, and me being impatient nippy is important lol i already have almost all Windows 7 features Disabled, and Visual effects at a minimum... I need Moarzz
