Ok, so the government is trying to get people off benefits and into work: great in theory but where are all these jobs to come from for all these thousands of unqualified/uneducated citizens?

It's all very well saying "we need to get people off benefits and into work" but the jobs aren't there anymore ........ we don't manufacture very much that is labour intensive and there are only so many road sweeping/shelf filling/labouring jobs, so where are all these people going to find employment?

This is a serious question .... very little building going on, very little work in agriculture, no where near enough 'menial' jobs out there for the masses so where are these jobs coming from that we expect benefit claimants to take up?

Come on solve the problem ....

No ones really looking into that are they they want to cut jobs and cut spenditure decrease unemployment its going to be hard because lots more people are going to be made unemployed before anything can get better -_-

Make them all street cleaners, even if it costs more surely having low unemployment is amazing for the economy.

* I might of been sleeping in my economics lectures

Where going to make a loud ultrasound noise to smash every window in the country and then get everybody making and fitting windows.

This is why they are trying to help get the private sector going, which Labour kept taxing heavily.

Yah thats what i thought there hopeing the private sector will be able to employ from all of this i hope they do. Otherwise unemployment is going to be high for quite some time.

It's a good question, they can't just create jobs out of thin air. I think a lot of it is just talk from the politicians, they probably know that there will always be a section of society unemployed, maybe they can reduce it by a few percent but this is typical tories, they may end up creating a bigger gap between the poor and rich again, i.e reducing benefits, to be fair though it must be a nightmare task trying to manage the needs of 60 million people.

Isn't it fantastic that we have a massive, unskilled immigrant workforce at the same time as we have a massive, unskilled, unemployed labour pool.
Work it out for yourself before you wonder where the jobs are. I haven't met a Pole without a job, but I've met plenty of Brits that "can't find a job").

Seriously? You think that immigrants are the reason there are British citizens unemployed? How about those British unemployed who are simply too lazy to work and simply leech of the benefits system?

Lazy people annoy me. :(

It really isn't that hard to find a job somewhere is it. Any job is better than no job; just about everybody I know has told me that.

a lot of these immigrants are willing to do jobs that us brits look down upon or seem to think were too good for blame it on the attitude of quite a lot of the unemployed the ones who complain when some foreign person gets a job that they were not willing to do in the first place. What can you do its there retarded attitude.

Then you have the honestly legitimate people who are unemployed and cant find work but they will in time they always do but the majority of them are the former lol.

Usualy younger people as well who have that attitude. -_-

Was it that difficult to work out what I was getting at?
You have completely misread my post. Maybe you just didn't get the sarcasm...
The Poles etc. are here to fill the labour gap that is left by a generation of scroungers that are better off not working. Thanks Labour.

Nowadays, we just take in each others washing. Since we have near zero manufacturing or exports, we are totally reliant upon ourselves. We just cannot exist like this forever.

Unless we start manufacturing (which is very unlikely), our unemployment is just going to rise steadily.

Pfft :D use more smileys ;)

Benefits costs less than pointless public sector jobs. Stop taxing private sector and get people to accept that they can't have an awesome job without qualifications, if there's no work why do people flock to this country to work?

Also; that there's no graduate jobs about is a load of crock too.

We're about the 6th largest manufacturer in the world. Also; until recently, we were a net oil exporter.

Of course there are graduate jobs, right next to the Poles on the production line. ;)
Another magnificent Labour success is having almost every kid come through school and "University" and then expect a great job when the market is saturated with degrees that mean nothing 'cause every kid has one.
