Is it just me or is there a 'my 8800gtx is dying what should i get?' thread every day or so?

Dude, just get a 5770.

I take it the 5830 outperforms the 5770 then?

Don't worry, it does (costs more after all ).

5770 is more cost efficient as i said above, but you'll ultimately have some more horsepower with the 5830

That's because 8800GTX has probably been in used since 2006 and is still a capable card today, where as people that gotten other less capable cards around 2006 probably has upgraded their graphic card once or twice already.
