My parents drove 400miles these last few days and the "electronic stabilisation programme" light came on. Its off now but what does this mean?

Did it flicker, or did it come on and stay on?

If the former, it was simply working as it should. If the latter, one or more parts of the system registered a fault.

apparently it stayed on, and then once the ignition was off and engine restarted it went off. Think the light came on after doing 100 - 150miles without stopping

did they turn it off by accident as it normally comes up when off?

The car turns the system back on by default when you start the car back up.

Been out with my parents today and the stabilisation programme light came on, and the abs light came on too I was thinking could the stabilisation programme light be coming on when the abs light comes on or when the abs dont work properly?

Also is it normal that the turbo cuts out at high revs, cos apparently when dad thrashes the car the turbo cuts out when reving high? Oh yeah the car is a 2.5 V6 diesel.

I think the only way you're going to get an idea of what's going on is to have the car on a diagnostics scanner. Should be something logged on there.

Yeah, like you can tell when the abs conks out cos the braking feels slightly different apparently. My sister prefers it when the abs fails can you believe, she says it doesn't "snatch" when the abs isnt working, if that makes sense to anyone?

The turbo cutting out symptom is probably just the diesel engine running out of breath. They work far better at lower revs, peak power output is about 3k IIRC.

Apparntly the peak power is about 3500rev, so that will be the reason its loosing power, but if thats the case when you floor it you need to change gears quite quick, cos it gets to 3500revs dam fast in all gears. We had a citroen xm 2.5TD and that accelerated quite a bit slower so gears didnt get changed as fast when it was floored.

I know this could be completely off course but my old Seat Toledo (1.8T) did the exact same when the MAF failed. Maybe it could be a common VAG issue?

its crazy,, been talking to a guy, and his car does 7000rpm and it does 0-60 in 10.5secs, and our audi that only does 3500rpm shaves off 1.8secs, but his car is 88bhp so quite a bit of diff there,, and Im guessing if the bhp was the same of 150, , his car would have the edge, yeah?

I put money on an abs/wheel speed sensor in the library with the candlestick.

Seriously though, its clear that none of your family have any idea about cars (This isn't necessarily a bad thing, nor is it intended with insult) - so just take it to a garage!
