OK, my Desire is nicely loaded up with a 32GB card.
It was mainly in preperation for 2.2 and then all the apps can go on it and once I start putting apps on it I won't particularly want to change it.
I'm thinking now that maybe I could retire my iPod and use this for music too.

When I plug my Desire in via USB I can obviously browse it like a HD.
I see in the root the following folders:

.bookmark_thumb1
.footprints
backup
LOST.DIR

Could somebody tell me the directory structure where I can place music albums?
What folders/sub-folders I need to create etc.

Thanks.

I am new to this also; I have an mp3 folder which I just drop into and the music gets picked up. I do have a couple of questions also which no doubt will be relevant to the OP, so hope you don't mind adding them to your post (thanks)

1. Cover art? How do you sort this out? Does the image have to be embedded into the tracks?
2. Is there a way to get the tag data once its on the phone or does this all have to be managed before you drop it onto the phone?
3. Lastly, is the default music application the best one available? It looks a bit pap compared to the iPhone equivalent. I am amazed by the Desire thus far, but actually let down by the music player. That said I am only using it with the preloaded music.

Thanks

Just make a folder, the music player will find the stuff.

DoubleTwist is a good alternative player.

Android scans the whole SD card and will add anything using metadata (ID3 tags) to sort it.

You can pretty much put it in any directory you want, in any folder structure. There are some apps that will manage the ID3 tags and cover art on the phone, but to be honest you're better doing it on a PC beforehand and use something like Tag&Rename. Coverart can be embedded in the file, which is the best method IMO.

If sounds from other folders are being added and you don't want them showing up on the player (eg sound effects from games, ringtones etc) you can create a file in the location called ".nomusic". which will stop it adding the audio files to music library.

I've got my music in /media/music on my SD card, all set up with IDv3 tags, but I don't really need the tags as I use an Mp3 player called MortPlayer, which plays everything in file structure, rather than sorting via tags, which I can never be bothered to do.

1. itunes, then double check with an id3 tag editor before porting over with itunessync
2. yes you change with id3 tag editor by accessing phone folders, you will need to recache the phone tho if you do this. (settings)
3. compared to the iphone the player is lacking, i havent found a better one yet (yes even doubletwist)
