Just wondering if anyone has ever dealt with rust on the underside of cars before?

The Legnum was clearly not undersealed when it was imported, and years in Aberdeen has caused the underside to look a bit of a mess.

Money is tight this month with it going in for the belts/water pump/fluids change, and potentially replacement rear tyres. Still, I view treatment/sealing of the underside as a priority.
I've seen a few products that pretty much paint directly onto rust. (After some cleaning/brushing down)
"Rust Bullet" was one that I've been recommended. I looked at the website but was swamped by marketing speak... :D
Has anyone got any experience with similar products? Or are there any alternative treatments?

There wasn't too much concern from the "man in the know" about the underside, but I'd rather get it protected from further corrosion. :)

Thanks for any help.

All of my 4x4s I just get/got underneath them with a wire brush & a pot of smooth hammerite, You can paint over anything including rust with hammerite but take a wire brush to any bad areas first.
An easier way is on a ramp with some Shutz & and air.

I have used hammerite rust killer stuff before, did the job then removed any loose bits and i undersealed the car with the hammerite underseal.

Removed the rust, make sure its totally dry and apply a couple of coats. leave to dry for a day or so
They also do a clear underseal which i used on painted areas such as the sills

I take it this job would be easy enough for someone like myself to undertake?
I don't know too much about cars, but I can clean+paint stuff... :|

Thanks for posting that link.
Plenty products make bold claims, but I really need experiences from people who've used them. :)

That Rust Bullet product makes the boldest claims of all I think, but it's difficult to get past the marketing "THIS IS AMAZING, PATENTS, TECHNOLOGY, MAGIC" lingo.

I'd really like the product to stay on there for a couple of years without needing looked at. This is maybe not realistic but... I can live in hope.
Didn't have this issue with the Alfa... :D

Just clean the area with a wire brush, any badly rusted areas treat with a rust killer/paint and then underseal over it.

It has to be dry when you apply the underseal though otherwise it can have the opposite effect of protecting the bodywork

Hammerite is to brittle and will come off with every stone that hits it

I use this stuff: http://www.therustshop.com/shop/index.php?act=viewCat&catId=50

Works a treat, but dont get it on floor, its a real pain to get off, and I mean a real pain
I use it on my campervan and its rust free (underneath)

never had a problem with hammerite underseal cracking/chipping off before  been on a 18months on the mini and still feels flexible to touch

POR15 can be a pain to apply. Bilt Hamber Electrox is BRILLIANT but it is thin, so I would be tempted to Schutz over the top of it.
