Indoor cat + windows

People who keep indoor cats have deep underlying issues imo, they enjoy keeping a cat locked up its one step up from kidnapping and holding someone hostage.

Also what kind of person who lives in a flat thats above ground floor even gets a cat in the 1st place? Utter madness

You honestly think that? seriously get a grip. Nobody gets a cat for the 'pleasure' of keeping it locked up, i find that insulting to be regarding as someone who would kidnap someone.

I have an indoor cat, i live on the first floor and my cat is very happy. I have stairs access to the outside which i leave wide open all day and the cat doesn't go out any further than a few feet accept maybe to munch some grass and if the weather is poor / wet she wont even consider going outside.

Its like people who buy dogs then just kick them out in the back garden and say "well they are use to living outside in the wild"

maybe but not in a back yard with nothing to do but **** and bark all the time.

My cat doesn't like going outside.
He's been out a few times, either just cries at the window until you let him back in and give him a cuddle; or he scuttles off and cries a few doors up until you let him back in.

Our cat was the same, didnt go out for over 6months when we got him, so we got him a cat flap. Took him a few months to get his confidence and his own territory, now he spends most of his time brining us back gifts and sunbathing in the middle of the road. Enjoying his life to the full!! If he gets run over then he will do so happy.

You should give him every opportunity he wants to go outside, even if it takes time for him to get used to it. He will enjoy life 100x more. He wont jump out the window if he dont think he can manage it, even if he does it wont kill him and he might not do it again if it turns out to be too far. You use a front door and dont jump out the window give him the same chance and put a cat flap in!

Some shameless cat pimping:

Happy after brining us his 1st every catch:

Keeping an eye on his territory with his brother:

Having a nap with his best buddy:

The worst thing about keeping a cat inside is it'll become a wimp, a domesticated wimp. It's undignified.

My cat spends most of it's time outdoors, he's a hunter through and through, you have to work for his love. If you buy him a scratching post he'll not go near it, he'd rather use a tree like a proper cat. He won't go near toys, he wants live subjects.
Thats a proper cat, not some thing which just lives to be stroked and fed. If I wanted that i'd go get a dog.

Wow, its incredible how many people can know everything they need to about me, my flat, the cat and her past etc etc to make such rash judgements just from a picture.

Honestly people, get a clue, a life or both.

Really? Dont know anything about you. Know that cats should be free to hunt/roam outside as they please.

If this is the case then I'm sorry I miss-interpreted your posts. But to me it sounds like you are keeping your cat inside, yes/no?

Have you asked your cat yet? You live in a city centre 1st floor flat that I assume is not a penthouse so minimal space for your cat to roam.

I don't give a stuff what an animal behaviourist/RSPCA say, having owned cats for several years confining it to living in doors without the option of being allowed outside is selfish. Unless anyone can communicate with a cat in their native tongue, I will stand by my point.

I hope it leaves you a dirty protest on your pillow each and every evening when you get in.

Oh dear

Keepig a cat indoors is fine and some breeders will even recommend it, I have to laugh at everyone calling the OP a horrible person.

Lol get a clue.

I've never known a cat to jump out of window that was too high off the ground though.

I'm not going to let my Persian cat out unless its under supervision, it would get matted, full of debris,

Indoor cats can be perfectly happy as long as they have enough space and toys/items to keep them active, there is no problem in it..

BS, cats that have never been let out are perfectly happy aslong as their needs are met

A cat can be perfectly happy indoors provided it was never an outdoor cat at one time.

The mind boggles at the stupid posts that have been made.
First up is a poster that doesn't want his cat going outside unless it gets dirty. WTF?
And the rest of these posters seem to somehow know that their cat is happy not to be let outside even though being outside is the most natural thing for the cat. Obviously they have asked the cat if it is happy not being let outside?

Who cares as long as you have a pet...
Selfish buggers!

Boo hoo, get a grip.

He's no doubt going to give it a better life than in many households, even those from which it can access the outdoors. You seem to believe that 'can it get outside', is the sole factor in determing whether or not a cat's life is a happy one. It will have a MUCH better life than 99% of other cats and compared to if it had been allocated to some council house urchin, so seriously, try and put things into some perspective.

Obviously they have asked the cat if it is happy not being let outside?

Obviously you have asked the cat if it's devastated at not being able to get outside?

Was this a joke post Robbie?

My cat has never attempted to leave the house btw, never stopped it, it just doesn't want to and will sit on the doorstep for however long the door is left open.

You don't know him then :p:o

I agree with him though.
