I agree, I follow NHL in real life when I can, but I'm an absolute football nut. That said, I still prefer NHL 10 over FIFA 10 and it's been the same for the last 3 or 4 years where NHL has been nothing but excellent with ever version. Always adding good features but keeping the old ones there. The option to import your own music and goal horns is fantastic, it totally adds to the games authenticity. There's nothing wrong with the default sounds though, I think they are one of the best in any sports game. The stoppages inbetween face offs, the goal horns, the crowd chants, the commentary, all absolutely brilliant in my opinion. I think it gets overlooked more in this country because we have really poor leagues and hardly any coverage.
The gameplay is superb and it gives you extensive tuning options to tweak the game to your exact specification, it can be as arcade or as realistic as you want, as fast or as slow, loads of fights, or no fights at all, automatic aiming or manual, realistic passes or arcade type passes, there's loads and loads of things you can change and a cool feature I thought was the ability to download other players settings, really nice idea.
The only thing I think they need to work on for the next iteration is mapping more players faces and then putting them in the game. They have a fair few in the game already, all the big players like Kane, Ovechkin, Lecavalier, Stastny, Datsyuk etc but I think we need to see more of the lesser known players, especially defensemen and goalies getting their real life faces put into the game.
I hope NHL 11 keeps up with the tradition of good soundtracks though because the last 4 years at least have been cracking.
